with all this talk about winter being almost here... just planted 100's of spring bulbs so at least I have something to look forwards to:

that said its been like summer in the garden today... almost got the table and chairs back out::):):)

Glad I aint the only one. Was round at my uncles to pick up some cables and started planning the veggie plot and when to plant. Its only October!!!!!:eek::eek:

Yes I am very lucky got a big garden.... now time for radox bath ( I am getting old ) I am sure my back did not hurt this much last year....

Come and do mine magpi it needs weeding and sorting. Spugs in scotland he complained enough mowing the grass - still needs weeding though. Any offers? :D:D:D

iv got some bulbs to plant, but im getting fed up with cats craping in my garden and digging to cover it up!!!....and ideas how to get rid of the little buggers!!???

Where they low energy bulbs?

I did my bulb planting a while back and I can sympathise with your back.
20 each of 3 varieties of Daffodils inside a circle, with each variety in its own segment.
20 each of 5 varieties of Crocuses surrounding the Daffodils, with each in its own segment.
200 snowdrops circling the Crocuses.

With a bit of luck and an all out war against slugs and snails these will be surrounded by red poppies (the opium poppy) who in turn will be bordered with yellow poppies and the remainder of the garden will sport meadow flowers. Foxglove, Hollyhocks and Lupins will nestle close to a fence and there will be a spattering of Antirrhinums near the front and in any odd spot that seems bare.

In the far corner in the semi shade there is a triangle of bluebells. 50 foreign bluebells in the apex and 100 English bluebells to complete the triangle.

The centre circle where the spring bulbs are buried is new soil and of course a local moggy has been round a couple of times. I have solved that problem by getting some chicken wire and pegging it a couple of inches above the plot. Now lets see him dig and have a crap through that. The rest of the garden ground is still quite hard, waiting to be raked over when it will be layered with new soil for seeding come spring. It also stops the three legged squirrel from burying the peanuts that he gets from next door.

wow... sounds like it will look really nice: my ones are just planted in groups: was going to try bluebells but you need shed loads to make it look right: back is now on the mend and the lawn mower away until spring:

I hope so magpie, I hope so.

The first year of bluebells may not be so nice but they, like all bulbs, split and multiply so after say a couple of years you could have a nice carpet of blue. I’ve planted mine about 3 inches apart so the display could be quite nice.

My only worry is the Taleban. Are they going to come round demanding protection money because I’m growing opium poppies?
Will I have to call in the British army to protect me?
What if that three legged squirrel turns out to be a suicide bomber?
Is that feral Tomcat an Al Qaeda agent?
Whose side are the magpies on?
Where do the pigeons come in? Maybe they are secret messengers?
Yikeees! My garden could be a war zone next summer.
