2 years for raping a child.

just read a report, that a 26yr old chef from devon, and a 25 yr old window cleaner from oxford, who raped young girls aged 12, and 10, went to the court of appeal against their 2 yr sentences, the attorney general argued that the sentences were unduly lenient, and the perverts had their sentences doubled to 4 yrs, i applaud that descision, just maybe it will send a message out to creeps not to waste taxpayers money? whilst i know all sentences have a minimum/maximum tariff, where the system fails to me is the JUDGES who first sent em down, should be brought to task for the ridiculously low sentence, cos i cannot think of any mitigating circumstance where a sentence so LOW can be given,to people who rape kids.:( end of rant, what do you think?

Agree the original sentences were far to lenient. I sometimes wonder which planet these so called judges come from. It is good that they lost the appeal it should never have been allowed to go ahead IMHO

agree but what about the judges that gave it? surely they should be accountable?

They never seem to get any flak for the pitifully short sentences they hand down. Makes you wonder how they would feel if it were to happen to any of their family and the perpertrator got two years. Yes they should be accountable for giving short sentences.

I aggree that any Judge who dishes out what the vast majority of the population considers a morally unacceptable sentence should be brought to task. I dont know who they would have to answer to.

I can see that under certain circumstances guidelines from the Home Office could muddy the waters a bit i.e. telling Judges to bear in mind prison overcrowding when sentencing. Though in cases like this there are no mitigating circumstances to my mind.

thats my point bernie n bonnyboy, until the judges are accountable, these terrible miscarriges of justice will continue to happen, completely wasting taxpayers money. should think they are accountable to the attorney general surely?

I think the judge should be asked to explain his reasoning for such a short sentence.

BBC NEWS | England | 'Lenient' rape sentences doubled

Theres the link for it. Heres the link for the original sentencing BBC NEWS | England | Devon | Judge 'reluctantly' jails rapist

The judge reluctantly jailed the man ......

How can someone say and do that? Reluctantly jail a man for raping a 10 year old? The judge needs his head looking at. Also this was in June of this year - and he was being released on October 19 because of the time he spent in jail waiting for the case to come to court.
