Airport Worker Suspended
Was reading an article in the Daily Express about a worker who was suspended for hanging a picture of the Sacred Heart at work. A co-worker complained that he had done it as an "act of provocation". After a three day investigation he was reinstated. Surely management could have handled this situation better? Is it to much to ask that they ask the worker to remove the picture rather than escorting him off the premises like a common criminal?

But turn the scene around and the picture was one of Allah. Imagine the brouhaha about the worker being suspended. Religious icons should not be allowed to be displayed in all places of work as a matter of British law. |
Re: Airport Worker Suspended
Yes the co-worker was a muslim but I am sure management could have handled the situation better.

Re: Airport Worker Suspended
As I understand it, Muslims do not approve of religious pictures, icons or representations of Allah, Mohammed or anyone else. That's fine and, if this were a Muslim country, I'd be on the side of the complainant. This is, however, a nominally Christian country and, for no matter what reason, no one who displays a religious picture should be censured in any way.
The key to harmony is tolerance and it has to work both ways. The idiots who are leaping to defend vociferous religious minorities are adding fuel to the fire of religious intolerance. |
Re: Airport Worker Suspended
If it had been done in an attempt to provoke the co-worker then I would agree that some action was called for. As it was the bloke was a practising christian who was deeply upset at the way he was treated. As you say Westender these things have got to work both ways. We will never get integration sorted while things like this are happening.
