Great idea cherokee.

Just one tiny point. The banner is not a hyperlink so I have taken the liberty of publishing this www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk which is a hyperlink.

Sorry if I seem out of breath but I’ve just been beating my credit card into submission. It’s such a wimp at times.

Donation made.

Now where’s that bread and dripping?

Yup! Painless it was but my credit card is still sulking because only a few hours ago I settled last month’s balance and it was looking forward to a ‘spend free’ month. Hah! Not a chance!

I notice that the list does not include sandwiches. Hardly surprising really when you consider all the sand which is there already. Joke courtesy of the Beano or was it the Dandy a long, long while ago.

Re: Would you like to help????

I’ve just received an email from SOS web site that reads:
Quote:

Dear James,
On behalf of everyone here at Support Our Soldiers we'd like to thank you very much indeed for your kind donation towards the Xmas Parcel Appeal.

The parcels this year will be sent to our lads and lassies serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and on other overseas operations, and your contribution will, we know, be much appreciated by them.

All donations are logged on the website together with details of progress to date so please do take a look and see how we're getting on.

We'd also like to ask you to consider Gift Aiding your donation. If you are a UK tax payer then you can use Gift Aid to make your donation go further by telling HM Revenue & Customs to add tax already paid to your donation.

This doesn't cost you anything more, but could mean an extra 28p for each pound you give, making a huge difference to us!

If you haven't already completed a Gift Aid declaration to Support Our Soldiers, then please follow the link below and complete the form including the amount and date of your donation.
http://www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk/ThankyouwithGiftAidForm.html

Thank you once again, and very kind regards

Karen

So we get the government to cough up some of our hard earned taxes too.

A tenner donation will attract an extra half parcel.

Hi I'm just wondering if any members of Accyweb have considered in sending small parcels to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan that will be overseas over the Xmas period.

If you require more information then please look at SOS - Support Our Soldiers this is a registered charity.

Will see if I can put the posters in a post.

If you want to ask me any questions please feel free to ask.

Thank you for taking time to read this thread

OK Im sorry to be a pain but if anyone knows of anywhere who can donate packing tape or shoe boxes . that would be a great help also.. im working my way round blackpool atm trying to find somewhere .. thanks again .. .
ALSO just like to add .. Ihad a call from my son and he says that a lot of the soldiers are only on basic rations over there atm and the bases are the absolute minimum .. he said his base did have running water which were a treat but many havent and have to wait till they get to the nearest one . so as you can see these parcels are going to be a huge morale lifter .. sorry to go on .. thanks guys i know your doing what you can..

Re: Would you like to help????

Hiya All

As some of you may know (due to missing childs car a few months ago) I am Cherokee's daughter but live in Accy

I know how much work she is putting into this, and its absolutely amazing how many of you have come on board to help. She is now on a mission (when I say a mission, I think me Dad and the kids are going to have to move into the shed cos if they sit still too long, theyre packed up and winging their way to Afghan!) to get as much help and parcels over, not just for the festive period but hopefully the following months as well.

REMEMBER, A SQUADDIE IS FOR LIFE, NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS!!!

sorry

So, she has the will, but she (and everyone else behind the charity) can only help with everyones support, and judging by all the really positive comments from everyone here, this could be a long term thing.

I am able to fetch, drop and carry (lmao, just like a well trained rottweiler) and live in the fern gore area so if anyone can help but needs a hand or drop off point (as well as Mick obviously), or basically anything, let me know.

ANY help will be gratefully received, with peoples time as much as financial help being precious to these guys.

And THANK YOU to everyone so far for everything promised and donated. For some of the lads over there, this is their first tour or first time away from their family and anything that makes them realise that we are still thinking of them will help.

Also, anyone that has a good and regular supplier of kleenex tissues (preferably the aloe vera soft on snotters) would be great cos Cherokee is going through them at the rate of knots. Oh and ear plugs would be great too ;)

Thanks hon. It seems as if it will be real easy for me to donate. They are taking donations at CFB/BFC Kingston. I also have it on my christmas wish list that the "peace on earth" idea might finally catch on.

Support For Commonwealth Personnel

Hello,

I hope you don't mind me leaving this message.
I'm ex WRAF from a few years ago and along with an ex QARAMC (who now lives in Canada) we run a forum called Kitbag Mates mainly for ex service men and women to meet up and chat about anything and everything, but without the heavy stuff. We even have 3 ww2 Veterans on board, who are excellent on the computer and bright as buttons.

We have only been going for 6 weeks and are gradually building up our membership.

The reason I'm on here is that one of our members son's has just returned to Iraq and is sending parcels and goodies via him and a female colleague for those that don't have anyone to send them things.

Now we would like to do more ourselves, but I notice this is just for British personnel.

Is there anywhere, or a site that you know off that
includes British, Canadians, Australians etc........the whole of the Commonwealth who are out in these danger zones, that is supporting them?

Thanks for any help and I can give my email if this helps.

Lin

BTW this seems a nice helpful site and great for those that need to have a contact.

may i say a big thanks to the 3 shoe shops on whalley rd, madhouse & the clarks shop & barbara kays too who kindly donated £10 to buy goodies for our lads & lasses nice one.

Would I be better of getting the selection packs rather than boxes? I am only asking because I think a selection box doesn't leave much room for anything else to fit in the shoe box.

We have just recieved this lovely message on sos and i thought i would just share it with you guys , It basicly says how much they appreciate the support from back home .actually brought tears to my eyes .. soppy old me lol..

thanks for all your support

hi everyone i have just been flicking throu all the messages you all sent on the day we returned and come on people you lot need to get out more .

no but seriously i knew there was support back home however not that much. just a quick bit of advice, if its the first time your loved one has been away just bear with them. they are bound to be abit different ie; snappy, mood swings, out on the beer, and at times quiet.(there will be loads of different emotions going throu each and every other persons head) but dont take any of it personally as we have all experienced alot of new things that we couldn't even start to explain, but in time you will hear the stories that mean alot to the person that is telling them. just please for your loved ones sake give them time. even thou we were all in the same place fighting the same war every single person was fighting a different one.

if there is anyone reading this that has unfortunatley lost someone out there then mine and all of the lads send our deepest condolances our respect to your family. i no they will always be in your hearts, please no they will always be in ours aswell. i am not trying to say we have suffered the same lose as yourself however when we are walking around in our own clothes or on parade in our uniform we are there representing them. they will never be forgotten.

on behalf of everyone who was and is still serving overseas i would like to give you all a massive thank you for everything you do it means alot to us all. people dont realise how much work you all do, however to get a parcel from someone you dont no means more than getting one of a loved on as it shows us that there is support back home and people that care.

Re: Would you like to help????

Thats great bernadette
It did make me all blurry eyed , but it does show just how tough theyu have it over there and also just how much they appreciate getting parcels esp off strangers .
someone asked me yesterday how they could get thier school involved and i suggested all the kids doing a xmas card , so hope that works .

BERNADETTE 22-10-2007 22:50

Re: Would you like to help????

I know where your coming from my brother was in the army for years and my brother-in-law as well. It is really hard on the family but we will never understand what the lads and lasses go through. I sometimes think the mental pressure is the worst for them. I know when my brother-in-law was on the Sir Gallahad when it got bombed he wouldn't talk about what he saw but it must have been horrendous.

cherokee 22-10-2007 23:02

They all react differently to different experiences , ive had a couple of bad do,s with my lad and its so hard to understand . but they do come through it with time .
