where do you do your shopping ?

given all the for and against posts regarding a possible new tesco in accrington and how it could be damaging to the local market I would like to know where we all shop just now...

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

I shop online always
Usually Tesco -delivered from Haslingden
Sometimes Asda - delivered from Clayton le Dale
Whichever gives the best prices after I have filled my basket at the Mysupermarket website

Toiletries/cleaning products are bought from various green/organic internet sellers

So I haven't ticked any of the options

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

Market twice a week for me, topped up by visits to local shops inbetween times, for milk etc.

Lilly 21-10-2007 19:47

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

I shop online too. All my groceries come from Sainsbury's. They deliver from their Bamber Bridge store. I do go to local shops inbetween for bread/milk etc.

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

It varies from week to week. Depends on where i am. My shopping this week has come from Whiteheads (in hassy), accy market, iceland, m&s, milkman and the shop across the road. I dont do a big shop - i just buy it when i need it. So i cant vote in the poll, because i do go to asda and tesco as well it depends on what im doing.

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

has to be asda for us (and not just o/h works there) can't find anything we like in other stores, even struggle in other asda's as they have local lines as well as main lines

jackyalex 23-10-2007 14:59

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

i shop at asda most of the time, i would shop at our local market but they dont have much, a card stall a fruit & veg stall,a clothing stall, and a stall that sells batteries that sums up our market, and its only here on a wed morn, they all pack up at 1pm, i live in a historical market town

Stanaccy 23-10-2007 18:34

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

Mrs goes to Asda as it gives her an excuse to wander through the George bit for clothes for the 2 youngest.

Do Tesco sometimes but as Garinda has said putting money in Shirley's pocket fills me with revulsion.

And yes before anyone starts going I know all about Wallmart.

The other main reason is that Asda in Accy is a lot more convenient.

(They also sell tinned Vimto and Tesco doesn't :D:rolleyes:)

Nickelson 23-10-2007 18:36

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

Asda usally
Marks and Sparks for potatoes etc.
Tesco Haslingden sometimes
If Tesco came to Accrington i would use that on alterative week to asda probaly.

Bonnyboy 23-10-2007 21:20

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

Asda seems,at least according to this poll, to get a fair chunk of the communities cash. Do they give anything back eg. sponsor a school for sports equipment, perhaps send the odd hamper to a local care home. Only ask as I dont know.

jackyalex 23-10-2007 21:28

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

our asda doesnt do anything for the community i dont know about accy asda though

I should have said, it is the Accrington Asda I was talking about.

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

supermarket wise we prefer Tesco. I hate the layout in ASDA(its not logical, some cheese here, some 3 aisles away etc) and the car park is a total joke.

However i do like shopping on the markets. Eitehr Accy (mainly fruit/veg), Blackburn (meat from whittakers) or Bury ( superb market for pretty much everything.)

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

I shop at asda.. when I say "I", I mean my mum does and i help to eat lol.

When I'm at college i go to tesco as its right in the centre of town. They are a bit expensive tho!

thindle 27-10-2007 19:45

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

I go to Accrington Market and town centre most days to buy what I need. Now and then I go to Morrisons and sometimes Asda. Accrington doesn't need another supermarket. Fish, fruit and veg is far superior on Accrington market. If we don't use the market and town centre shops they will disappear altogether. Newsagents are doing badly because of supermarkets and garages selling them. Remember the corner shops? Almost gone now due to the supermarkets.

Use them or lose them:)

i shop at asda as it has everything i need

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

I would love to be able to shop on Accy market, but since it moved it is far too small. My favourite market has to be Bury, lots of choice (and some quite unusual food as well) - I visit about once a month and stock up on fresh fish, which I freeze. I also think Bury is a great town to shop in, and it only takes the same time as if I went into Blackburn, and it is possible to park for free within a few minutes walk of the town centre. I must admit I try to avoid having to visit Blackburn as much as I can.

Tesco much prefer it to Asda, always fill up as well,

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

I do my shopping at the market and the butchers mainly, and I buy a loaf from the spar. Asda is too far away and sainsbury's is too expensive. We dont have a tesco as far as I know, and I dont like the look of somerfields :p

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

Not everything is available on the market, which is a pity. The fresh stuff is better than the supermarket versions. The supermarket advantage is that everything you need can be obtained from one source.

I shop at Tesco now, as I work there! I have to stay loyal to the ones that pay me! lol! Also i'm collecting my clubcard points, they'll come in handy at Christmas.

Re: where do you do your shopping ?

I have used on line grocery shopping for over 10 years and have used Asda Tesco and Sainsburys - Tesco gives the best service - rarely make mistakes - deliver on time - best phone service when something is wrong

What can you not get on the market?

meat, fish, fruit and veg, dairy products... the only thing I cant find is bread but I dont eat much of that anyway.
