They use strong arm tactics and scare residents into parting with money on the spot and to sign up for contracts there and then. Under no circumstances are they to be used: there are a number of legitimate damp proof operators in this area, all of whom offer friendly advice and will do a good thorough job. You do not need to buy from door-to-door pressure salesmen like this and it should be pointed out that signing for contracts without cooling off periods to change your mind is a criminal offence. I cannot name and shame this company at present for legal reasons; however the media will be notified. End of Accrington Neighbourhood Policing Email 19 October 2007 |

Though I don't know if I feel this is really making the most of police time... 'PCSOs Gallacher and Johnson will be accompanying members of Harvey Street Youth and Community Centre on a community trip to Blackpool lights.' |

I remember a while back posting that the teenagers were operating a speed camera outside the Youth Centre on Harvey Street with the Police. This helped teach them about speed and the danger associated with it. I have spoken with all the PCSO's in Ossy and I think we have a good bunch. Next time you see one in town stop and ask them why they get involved with the youth centre. You can then let us all know a bit the info. |
Re: Accrington Neighbourhood Policing Email
I'll take a leaf out of your's and David Cameron's book, and the next time I see a gang of young people hanging about, I'll hug a hoodie, and report my my findings.;)

Are you part of the "move them on we don't want them in our back yard brigade". Youths are a part of the community and we need to give them somewhere that is theirs. The little kiddies have play areas and once they reach 18 (16 or 17 more like) they start going to the pubs and clubs. Its the secondary school kids that have very little to do in this area. The Police are trying to do something about this and will hopefully reduce crime from this age group by doing so. |
