It is almost impossible to get a porter. They are as short staffed as every other department and are totally flogged. Jambutty has a valid point when he says that you can't have porters and managers. Maybe that point should also be extended to include cleaners, nurses, x-ray staff, pharmacy staff, health care assistants and ward waitresses.

Lettie I hope you don't think this was raised to critisise the staff in any way. We have had cause to visit the hospital quite a lot in the last few months and I have nothing but praise for all the staff. It really concerns me that if someone were to hurt theirself whilst using a wheelchair they might then be told they should have got a porter.

Well I asked the district nurse about this today and he was of the opinion that you should ask for a porter. If there are none available you have covered yourself if an accident were to occur.

Yes I know the ambulance staff are very good taking you to and from departments but if you make your own way there that is when you may need a porter.
