I know just how you feel Granny - I am a 'good food' fanatic - organic and home made and all that - but even I am just FED UP that they seem to be giving out contradictory advice every other week - too much advice that changes so often, will just turn people off from trying to eat better.

Think they can push things to far in the other direction, a bit of what you fancy does you good!!

MargaretR 01-11-2007 00:50

Re: Now Its Bacon ,,,,,,,

It isn't all that long ago since they were saying that the traditional MEAT and 3 veg was the ideal diet - now 'lay off the meat' unless it's white

PS butter has been on the 'bad' list - now its the trans fats in the margarines --better eat dry bread (but I never gave up butter :D)

The older I get the more I hear my Nana's rule on life. So much muck to eat........... a little bit of what you fancy...........when your time is up!

I enjoy a ciggie, a brandy and a nice steak. Well, when I can afford them and I have no intention of stopping anything. We all enjoy different things and that is how it should be.

Make the most of it.......BACON BUTTIES FOREVER!!

i will still have my bacon butty & my couple of portions of red meat Google Page Ranking week, seems to me just scare mongering again, if they would stop mucking about with our food i think things would be fine ......even proccessed food (pkt hams) mind you i do buy ham fresh these days but still get the odd pkt too.

What a load of crap.Think about it! If it was true then the German race should have been annihalred a long time ago.Its not what you eat just how its prepared.Salami causes cancer too, all crap.

Re: Now Its Bacon ,,,,,,,

Red meat has been harped on about since the 1980's as being a cause of cancer. This supposedly 'new' research is nothing new. I will continue to eat my medium rare steaks as long as I still enjoy them.

A lot of my friends eat healthily, excercise by running marathons, don't smoke, drink very little alcohol and go to bed early. they will probably outlive me by years but.............where's the fun????:D

Lettie enjoy the rare steaks while you can, Eventually you won't have teeth that can cope with them (sigh)
Granny - I don't eat bacon on a regular basis but just happen to have taken a pack out the freezer 2 days ago - was waiting for a replacement supply/delivery of HP - I will be indulging too :D

I know its religious but why?

this is what islam-world says is the reason, i actually thought it was because the pig was sacred to them..
Im not convinced about the 'medical experts' qualifications though!!

'There is a saying in English that "a man becomes what he eats." According to physicians and medical experts, pork is a harmful diet. Consumption of swine-flesh creates lowliness in character and destroys moral and spiritual faculties in a man.' (Why Islam Forbids Pork? By Rashid Shamsi)

It is realy a case of common sense like the Jews Moslems consider certain foods unclean, as they do not keep in hot climates, and soon become rancid. Hindus worship certain animals and consider them Sacred. Such as the Cow.

Think the message is not that you shouldn't eat it just that you do so in moderation.

Re: Now Its Bacon ,,,,,,,

If we were to listen to all the ‘experts’ we wouldn’t eat anything, except government issued nutritional biscuits. Maybe that is where we are heading?

So the ‘experts’ are advocating that we eat white meat. Does that include white veal? You know where the calf is held in a veal crate unable to move, fed nothing but a milk sop and sometimes bled regularly before it is killed.

http://www.britishmeat.com/veal.html

I use 2 pints of proper milk daily, non of this homogenised or skimmed rubbish. I eat bacon and red meat, but never touch the fat because I don’t like it. I make chips in beef dripping once in a while. I use real butter on my bread or boiled potatoes. I fry eggs as well as scramble or soft boil them. I use a bit of salt in my cooking but then there is no need for extra salt when eating. I like sweet tea so I use sugar and on my morning cereal.

In other words I pay no attention to the ‘experts’ and I’ve lasted 70 years and I’ve got most of my teeth too.

Muslims and Jews won’t eat pig products because the animal is seen as ‘unclean’ panther. A pig will eat just about anything. Hindus won’t eat beef because the animal is supposed to be ‘sacred’.

I think that there is something in the Koran about the pig being a dirty animal and therefore they are not permitted to eat it.

A bit like Hindus can't eat beef because the cow is sacred to them.

And then we'd be contracting 'mad person' disase, that would be bad for you. We could have nervous breakdowns worrying about what these 'experts' on nothing keep firing at us. My advice for what it's worth,is, If you like it and you'r fit and well doing it eat it, if you like a fag smoke and be happy. The only difference is ten years in a gereatric ward.

We already have "mad person's disease"; it's called PMS.

Eat healthy, exercise, die anyway. I like to remember Jim Fixx (I hope I remembered it correctly), the guru of jogging ... he died of a massive heart attack at the age of 52 (I think) after, you guessed it, his daily jog.

I eat healthy (or almost) because I had 4 hours of surgery last year to deal with clogged arteries, and I don't want to go thro' it again. I'm down to one cig a day ... I refuse to quit, so this token allows me to still call myself a smoker, silly I know, but what the hell ... I walk rather than drive ... healthy and green. I'm happy with it for now, and I still have my beer and tokes. But bacon sandwiches sounds sooo good ... and fried bread with HP all over it.:) Maybe when I get the munchies tonite .........

My asians friends from college says its the same for keeping pet dogs aswell, another dirty animal and they tend to avoid them. She told me this as I commented that alot of asians used to come into the pet shop I worked at to buy kittens, and I said its strangely popular amongst them, compared to the amount of other people that bought them.

Can't get Thwaites Bitter:mad: Closest things are John Smith's ... can get that on tap at a couple of pubs in town ... Boddington's (cans) Courage (cans).
