Poor Clio

1 Attachment(s)
My little dog has picked up the Parvo Virus and is seriously ill in the vet's clinic. They won't let us see her and we have to wait until nine-thirty in the morning to check on her progress.

The last bulletin was 'no better but no worse' and tonight will be crucial.

Please think of her xx

Re: Poor Clio

Used to have a little Spaniel like yours. He was a real handful, he had far more energy than I had time to work off him. I remember when it snowed he would collect snowballs in the fur on his back legs when I walked him. Used to have to use the hairdryer to thaw them off. That was back in the early 80's. Since then I've had Boxers. A tad bigger dog, far more placid apart from the first fella :D Hope your little chum is ok.:)

I too have a litle girl called clio(English bull terrier) so my thoughts are with you right now. Please don't forget that this thing IS curable...my mamma had a dog quit a few years ago, and with good help it pulled through.

Re: Poor Clio

She got through the night and they let Brian in to see her this morning. There is still a long way to go but things seem a little more hopeful today. As soon as she can go for twelve hours without vomiting they will start to feed her. Then it all depends on how badly her stomach lining has been affected.

Fingers crossed and thank you all xx

so sorry to hear about your dog...
I have 3 of my own and I would not want mine to get it as I know exactly what happens to the dog etc..I hope the vet was honest with you regarding this but can I ask why your dog wasnt vaccinated given its mainly un vaccinated dogs that catch it?

I dont want to be shot down in flames here - just curious to know..

Re: Poor Clio

She'd had all of her jabs which makes it all the more shocking. The vet did blood tests which proved that she had contracted the virus. She also said that she could have picked it up anywhere. Do bear in mind that the Spanish don't have the same principles as we do as far as animals are concerned and it's probably true that most of their dogs aren't vaccinated. Clio loves to play and has contact with quite a few dogs during her day.

It isn't going to help going down that road and I have another sleepless night to look forward to. I'm just hoping that I can cuddle her lovely silky body, sometime soon.

Thanks again for your kindness xxx

BERNADETTE 03-11-2007 21:07

Re: Poor Clio

Some friends of mine had the same with their dog June. It had all the jabs then like Clio contracted parvo. The dog got better, so just stay positive and I'm sure all our prayers will be answered.

junetta 05-11-2007 22:42

Re: Poor Clio

She's home!! We had to wait until early evening as the vet wanted to make sure that she could digest solids as well as water. She's a bit shaky and not having seen her since Friday, I can't believe how thin she has become. We have some special food for her which she needs to take in small doses at regular intervals. It's back to the vets tomorrow morning for more antibiotic injections and she's been grounded for the next week or so.

My daughter checked out the websites and advised a thorough cleansing of our apartment.........the vet agreed and we've been up to our elbows in disinfectant all day. The washing machine has been on all day too.

All her toys had to be thrown out, but I did buy a couple of new ones for her and I'm sure she'll be interested in them soon.

I'm so thankful.

Re: Poor Clio

It wasn't too good today. She had to go back to see the vet and have three more injections. I'm glad that Brian took her as he said that she screamed. Poor little mite.

Hopefully, they are the last and tomorrow she gets her drip needle out and a course of tablets. I just want to feed her up and give her a much needed bath..........but, slowly, slowly.

She would say hello and thank you but she's sound asleep on the sofa. Maybe later x

Have been doing a Margaret and googling this one .. gosh, Junetta lucky escape or what ... :not_ripe:

Sounds horrendous .. thing I noticed is that Clio can be infectious for a further two months, so best to keep her away from other dogs for a while.

She must have been really suffering .. take care of her .. x

LYNX1 07-11-2007 09:36

Re: Poor Clio

Just a matter of time and loads of cuddles (sure she gets plenty of them anyway) :D Just keep doing what your doing, it's working.....please keep us updated with her progress........

Re: Poor Clio

Glad to know Clio is getting better, My Labrador Bitch Amber had this when young. A good tip is when she's eating solids again boil some rice with garden peas, just as normal, she will love it and it is good for re-hydration after this type of illness. And of course plenty of TLC. Good Luck.

slinky 07-11-2007 12:43

It's great that she is back home!! :D Really chuffed for you June

junetta 07-11-2007 17:42

Re: Poor Clio

As she was sick again yesterday it meant another course of injections this morning. I think that we have turned a corner since then though. She's attacked the mop and given her teddy some grief.............she's been eating a little.

I daren't be too complacent but it is looking good. Let's hope that tomorrow will be even better xx

Re: Poor Clio

I really can't praise the vet enough. Clio is almost back to normal and has been given a clean bill of health. She's very skinny but is eating and drinking as normal.

No walks for quite a few weeks but that isn't a problem. Fast asleep on the sofa! Her dad spoils her rotten!

I'm thinking of taking a box of choccies into the vet clinic tomorrow but don't really know if this will be acceptable........what do you think?

garinda 08-11-2007 23:27

Re: Poor Clio

If you think the vet has given good care to Clio, do it.

It's a nice gesture.:)

I would take a box of choccies in June.

When I was doing care work, it was always soooo nice to receive a
" Thankyou " box of choccies off relatives families.:)

Great to hear she is doing so well :)

Thanks Rindy and Slinky...........I was thinking on those lines too but 'im indoors thought that it might be a little over the top.

Re: Poor Clio

I bought a box of those posh things that they have at dinner parties...can't spell it! Will drop them in over the weekend.

As for Clio......she's gone from death's door to being an absolute pain. Nothing is safe at the moment. One broken ashtray, phone wire ripped off the wall and she's eaten half of my book!

Back to normal and it's so lovely.
