Eight forty five.

Ding dong, ding dong.

I was still sleeping. I hadn't gone to sleep until nearly 5am.

Managed to get downstairs, even though I was unsteady on my feet, as my drugs hadn't kicked in.

'Good news!'

'Jesus loves you.'

Short conversation ensued. Mainly about would Jesus still love me if I'd fallen down the stairs to receive this vital information, before closing the door.

Last night I had a similar call. This time from a young woman who wanted me to sign up and pay the Red Cross by standing order.

I'm not in the worst position. Other people, such as the elderly, the disabled, the sick, parents of sleeping children, or those who work nights, must be much more affected than myself.

I have nothing against having someone's literature being posted through my door. If it doesn't interest me, it goes straight into the recycling sack.

I'm sure if all cold calling was made illegal, it would also cut down on people being conned by scum pretending to be someone they aren't, and ripping off the elderly. If calling was by appointment only, it would lessen the risk of vunerable old people being taken in.

Jesus, thanks very much for your interest, but please don't call again...I'll call you.

I was suprisingly polite!:rolleyes:

We can sign up so we don't receive unsolicited telephone calls and mail, but not from people knocking on our doors, peddaling their message.

Stuff religious freedom to spread the word.

I don't want your God, or new windows, or a new gas supplier.

Wouldn't even answer the door 'til I have put me face on and done the hair anyway .. :D

Bet you were really furious Garinda. You will have to buy one of the stickers that say 'No cold calling' sure easily obtainable.

Lots of neighbourhood watch committees have set up 'No cold calling zones' in conjunction with the police. Think this is a good idea, but have to get everyone in your area to agree .. just google.

You can buy door signs on ebay dirt cheap, but since my front door is in an enclosed communal stairwell, I have a paper one I produced on my PC. It is only aimed at religion pushers, so I still get those fuel supply chaps - just say I check with Uswitch - go away.

We had someone from Red Cross round last night as well.

He kept making stupid jokes. I told him if I wantes to donate I would do so online. Go away.:mad:

As i said there it still doesn't work, had a right set of dodgy nobheads last week claiming to be peddling windows - doh its a blumming rented estate, i got an official one from LCC but alas as i said to them by complaint IT DOESN'T work & their reply is as follows:

Got my reply from trading standards a bit of disconcerned reply but tried

Further to your enquiry to this Department regarding the continual calling
of doorstep sellers.

I must advise you that such sellers are entitled to call at your door, and
are not necessarily committing any offences in doing so.

This Department discourages consumers from doing any kind of business on
their doorstep, and I would applaud you in turning away callers, or refusing
to answer the door.

If you feel in any way threatened or intimidated by a doorsatep caller
please do not hesitate to call 999, as the Police are committed to assisting
Trading Standards with this kind of nuisance.

All cold calling should be made illegal, regardless of whether we have a sticker or not, and as others have said, it doesn't deter the more aggressive power supply/window salesmen.

I have a tongue in my head, and am relatively compos mentis, but it means the more vunerable members of society are sitting targets. If they knew all calls were by appointment only, they'd be less likely to let in those intent on ripping them off or doing them harm.

As i posted from last week its not illegal as much as i'd like & that door sellers are entitled to knock at your door - whether we like it or not, which says a lot for trading standards whom initially warns us about dangers of cold selling:confused:

Red Cross called at my elderly neighbours the other night at 8.45, she opened the door a fraction and because she couldn't hear what the guy wanted shut it again, he still managed to shove a card into her hand, The strange thing is no-one called at our house, I would have thought they would have disturbed the entire grove not just the selective few.

I'll answer the door without my dressing gown on next time, and ask them to come in.

That should result in a hasty exit.:D
