Coffee!!
Went shopping in Burnley this afternoon with my daughter We decided to go for a brew and something to eat. Anyway I got two sandwiches, a pot of tea and an Espresso. When the Espresso arrived it was in one of those tiny cups and was really strong. My daughter couldn't drink it and I am not sure if that is how it is served. I know we have a few coffee drinkers on here so I'm sure one of you will tell me whether it was served properly. By the way it cost £1:25 for something that was left!!!

Re: Coffee!!
That'll teach ya for trying to be posh ...... Mrs. Bucket lmao :p:D:D
|
Re: Coffee!!
Yes it was served correctly :)
Was it the stall in the market hall. ? |
Re: Coffee!!
That was the correct way to serve it, you probably wanted a cappucinno which is an espresso topped up with foamed milk.
Espresso's are an aquired taste as they are very strong. |
Re: Coffee!!
lol... expresso is very strong black coffee.... btw if you have an expresso in a mug you overdose on caffeine.. not fun!!!!

Re: Coffee!!
Sadly the coffee served in cafés these days is a relative of dishwater. The tea isn’t much better either.
Long, long ago, circa 1940’s, there was a café in Whalley where multitudes of cyclists and hikers would call in for a mug of real coffee before and after their day out. A drink to die for, it was that good. If I remember correctly it was sixpence for a normal mug and ninepence for a pint pot. It’s probably not there today and even if it is I doubt if the coffee is the same. |
Re: Coffee!!
Better stick to Mellow Birds in future :D

Re: Coffee!!
I drink coffee a lot but never, ever order espresso! Far too strong. I always order an Americano - which is just a basic black coffee.
|
Re: Coffee!!
I was going to take it back but she wouldn't let me. Why can't they jusy sell coffee?
|
Re: Coffee!!
I love the stuff - I get the strong stuff double size - 'dopio per favore' (double please) :D
I have a little Philips machine to make it at home. |
Re: Coffee!!
lattes are lovely, an espresso is served in the smallest of cups and usually is served with a biscuit (if you wernt choking enough) its like tar but has a nice after taste, you have to try things once and well i see that you wont be getting another but its good to try new things, you wont know if you like them or not otherwise

When my hubby was in hospital last year,,we used to get 2 black coffees and a pot of hot water and then put milk in another cup because it was so strong ,,it was lovely freshly ground coffee though and we ended up with 2 pots each ,,,after 5weeks of this the girl in olivers just did it automaticly...i think she thought we were just saving money,,,,:)

Re: Coffee!!
Really posh continental cafes serve it with a glass of mineral water on the side as standard.
|
Re: Coffee!!
Bernie, rather than waste the £1.25 you should have gritted your teeth and knocked it back in one - believe me, it can give you quite a boost!
I'm off to Manchester now to have one myself, followed by a double shot cappuccino. I'll be flying round those shops! |

Never had an expresso. What would it be like in comparison to a cup of coffee with two/three teaspoons of coffee in?

The Spagetti benders invented 'coffe' to take the taste of their crap food away, in Spain it's that bad, they put cheap Apricot Brandy in it. Italians, well ask any of their 'war heroes' where they got their courage from.:D

Re: Coffee!!
Customer. “Waiter, this coffee tastes like mud.”
Waiter. “That’s not surprising sir. It was only ground this morning.” |

Re: Coffee!!
Hiya
An expresso is like double strength black coffee is a tiny cup, cappucino and latte are basically coffee, with steamed milk (the difference is the way the milk gets hot I believe). If your making a\ brew at home, put your milk in the cup first abouy 1/3 to 1/2 full, pop into the microwave till hot, then add spoonful of coffee and hot water top the top. Tastes fab! Also, apparently, if your a coffee lover that put your coffee in the cup and then fills with boiling water, this actually burns the coffee and gives a 'nasty' taste. Always put milk in first then coffee so granules dont burn. You can actually taste the difference. Saying that, my daily diet is coffee and fags lol |
Re: Coffee!!
Goodness me I'm glad I don't drink coffee. It sounds far too complicated.

Re: Coffee!!

Re: Coffee!!

I won't drink coffee normally but I will drink espresso. As to the difference between cappuccino and latte, they are both essentially the same, espresso topped with steamed milk, however in a latte 10% of the milk is "frothy" and the other 90% hot milk, a cappuccino is 30-40% "frothy" and the other 60-70% hot milk. It's all down to the way it's poured. I need to get a new job. |
Re: Coffee!!
this thread reminds me of the late 50s early 60s when we teenagers hung about in expresso coffee bars listening to the latest songs on the jukebox,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,erm memories:)
