State Funding For Political Parties

The debate of the day on Ceefax letters these last few days has been about the state funding of political parties and such a scheme has even been mooted in the corridors of power.

The consensus so far on Ceefax has been against such a notion.

Seeing as the state does not have any funds of its own but only access to taxes paid by us, I couldn’t agree with and wouldn’t like the thought of my taxes going to fund a political party that is opposed to my thinking on what is best for the country and me.

this has probably been mooted again, due to all the recent crap about party funding by anonimity? personally i have nothing against people funding any party privately, but am certainly against state funding.for the reason you mention.

So not only would we be subjected to their propaganda, we'd have to pay for it too! No way!

Yes I agree, why should we pay out of our taxes to fund something we may totally disagree with.

I am against these miscreants and sleaze merchants using my tax contributions to fund their political parties.

There is certainly an argument for state funding of political parties. If you really want to remove corruption, state funding is a good way to do it. Lets face it we don't want to end up like America where people are doing huge favours for each other in return for jobs/money after they leave office. Although, is that already happening? :)

My personal philosophy is that private, but capped, funding is a good way of dealing with the problem. I mean capped ACROSS THE BOARD. No opt outs for trade unions.
