What an isolated life you must have led! There are plenty of things worse than losing a pet, admitted that Cat of mine, I would be sad if she disappeared but come on,,,,,,,

Death of a child
Death of a partner
Losing Your home
Earthquakes
Eruptions
Cancer in a loved one, (or even just someone you hear about), but loss of a pet?

There should be far more worthy losses that make you sad, after all we take on a pet knowing it's life span is going to be less than our's, however we always hope our children will out last us, when they don't, we have, great and remorseful recriminations, but a missing pet???? I hope she finds it, but there

Are, Far worse thing's than that!!!!

Well sweet tart, if you noticed it was no criticism of the owner of the lost dog, (for them/you I had sympathy), it is only the priority which someone else placed it at, that I dislike, strange isn't it Mez had to start this thread for you ('cos you're shy), but you are already imply-ing swear words in just your 8th post.

Welcome to accyweb!:D

Well let me tell you i have not long since lost a dearly loved dog(yes she was a dog) but she was mine and she was a much loved part of my family..she was treated like any other member of my family..i know we cant compare loosing a dog/cat or any animal to loosing a parent or a child, but the hurt and loss is still there..and i for one elieve that f you love a pet you still grieve for them.

That fact is actually mentioned in what you quoted, I will not dispute the fact that losing a pet by any means isn't upsetting, however look closely at what the other person said and then what I said which is that there:-

Read my post again and you will see it was no criticism of you or your lost dog, just someone saying it is the worst thing that can happen, because I do sympathise for your loss but not for the priority she gives to it!

I didn't start this thread, so I will contribute nothing whatsoever to any continuation of it after this, yet again a let's move Less 'cos it's the easiest thing to do, well it might suit you Oh glorious mod' but it loses all relevance outside the original thread!

'Nothing worse than' is just a turn of phrase. How often have you heard people say "There's nothing worse than a paper cut"? Well of course there are things worse than a paper cut. Having your arm amputated is considerably worse than a paper cut! It's just a phrase implying sympathy.

I have to agree willow, I think I have the gist of what Less was saying, but don't care much for the way in which it was put across, it had a definate tinge of tactlessness.

Has anyone any idea why this thread ( initially a post in another thread - lost chocolate poodle) has spawned into this rant from the initial thread ? As far as I can see Lynx1 merely conveyed her sympathy to the thread initiator ynonne.e. Why this tirade of Less is deemed worthy of a topic in itself is beyond me………..someone suggested nepotism, I scoffed, it cant be.

Dont think its a tirade , Less is just telling it as he sees it , losing a family member (Mom, Dad, Son, Daughter, Grandchild, Sibling etc. ) and losing the family pet (Dog,Cat, Budgie, Goldfish ) are two completly separate things , a bit like sadness for a pets demise and grief for a family (human) members passing on . ;)

Re: Nothing worse than losing a pet (Topic Spin-off)

I think it was moved into a thread of its own because it was a bit of a thread wander from the original purpose of the thread. Unfortunately, having done so has given it an importance of its own out of all proportion to the level of the comment in context where it was merely an 'aside' in the original thread (akin to Neil's jokey one about needing a photo of Yvonne so he'd recognise her when he sees her).

Not all pets die before their owner. African greys and tortoises both live long life spans, and are just two that I am aware of, but I am sure there are many more...
