Car insurance

Full comp or 3rd party fire and theft?
Whats the best?
Whats the difference?
What would you go for if you had a £500 old car that did about 10,000 a year?
Please help

I think you can only have comp on cars over £1K. for a £500 car do 3rd party only. If it gets nicked then write it up to experirence. (although when they take the excess etc off you'd only get a couple of hundred and lose any NCD so its not worth claiming).

Re: Car insurance

Get a quote for both covers.

Comprehensive can work out the cheapest option as its the only cover that allows a age of car discount so if it a older car.:)

Depends on you age also.

If your married and the wife has a licence put her on as it may reduce the premium. Stange but true in some cases.

Also I would always recommed using a Broker, if it goes wrong or you have a problem they are there to help you.

You can have comp cover on cars worth less that a £1000.

I have an N reg golf and have fully comp insurance...must admit I am a lady of a certain age (58) but have not driven on my own insurance for over 10 years ( so have no No claims bonus ) and it cost me less than £350 for the years ( this price includes legal cover ) so I was quite pleased with it...always worth comparing the prices.

This year we found it a lot cheaper to go through a broker, we got insurance with the same one's we usually insure with, but because we went through a broker it was over £100 cheaper. For a car worth £500 I think I'd go for 3rd party.

When i was driving i had a vw polo worth about £400 insured it 3rd party fire and theft. Mind you if anyone had nicked it might have got a surprise - engine was spot on for a 15 year old polo. I drove it for 2 years then got a newer car sold it for £100.

I hate insurance companies. Work off statistics and nothing else, just because a lot of people my age drive everywhere like lunctics doesnt mean i will, so why are my quotes all 2k+. Sorry to go off topic, always ring the companies rather than online, you get cheaper quotes that way, also try telling them a rival company is 50quid cheaper price will soon drop.
