Driving test...languages available

Jumping from another thread about Driving test records going missing got me to wondering how many languages you can take your driving test in the UK other than English , the following is from my local Californian DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicle) website , and shows the choices available ......

"Besides English, the basic Class C written driver license exam is also available in the following languages:
Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Cambodian, Chinese, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hmong, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Persian/Farsi, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Samoan, Spanish, Tagalog/Filipino, Thai, Tongan, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Besides English, the basic Class C audio driver license exam is also available in the following languages:
Armenian, Chinese/Mandarin, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese"

I think the practical test is English only , (though translators are allowed ) , considering that lots of British people now drive overseas in countries where English is not spoken do you think its ok to allow the written test to be in languages other than English . Do the Brits who retire to Spain get to take their tests in English ? (or if you are a Canuck, English or French)

Looks like that in Ontario only a few centres offer testing in languages other than English and French. Translators are available in the larger centres. On Ontario hi-ways, all signs are in English. In Quebec, they are all in French ... On Quebec STOP signs they have the words WWT which is Quebec French for stop ... Whoa Whoa Tabernac' ... :D Sorry about that folks; a touch of Canuck humor.

I don't know but I would hope that it can only be taken in English because the road signs which have words on are written in English and it would be important to know what they say.

One thing that all drivers understand, whatever language they speak, is a set of flashing red lights in the rear view.:D
