There came wise men from the east........

Well that's what it says doesn't it? Three wise men, kings or what have you who came from the east to worship the Christ Child?

So how come we depict them in Arab dress riding camels? Surely Arabia is West of Bethlehem? :confused:

a thought for christmas....

Do you know what would of happened if it had been three wise women instead of three wise men?
they would have asked for directions, arrived on time, helped deliver the baby, cleaned the stable, made a casserole, brought practical gifts AND there would of been peace on earth

Plus add in that in those days thr arab empire wasn't what it is today, add to that the fact that it wasn't islamic(mohammd was't born at this point) and likely that most people of that area probably dressed in headscarf etc to keep the sand out.

Its a common known fact that blokes have much better navigation due to cavemen going hunting whereas cave WOMEN never left sight of the cave as it was their role t be their for the little ones. Same as spatial awareness... however it also explains teh fire watching..... :D

The idea that they were kings comes from non-Biblical tradition as does the idea that there were three. The Bible doesn't mention a number but it does mention 3 gifts and the assumption has been made of three men bringing one gift each.

Yes the shepherds wear the 'tea towels'. The magi are more like Aladdin, after all they were pre-Islam Arabs (or Chinese) ;)
