And at various branches of the store in the West Midlands, three shoppers were taken to hospital after fainting or suffering breathing difficulties in the crowds.

Eyewitness Jessica Claydon, 23, from Great Barr, Birmingham, said of one of the female victims: "She had been queuing up since 4am and it was really cold.

"I noticed her start to wobble then her legs went and she ended up in a heap on the floor. Maybe she hadn't had time for breakfast and started to feel feint in the queue.

Not been out shopping since christmas eve. Was ill yesterday and today took one look at the weather and thought no chance am i going out in this!!! In otherwords i dont like shopping.

Crazy aint it! And the craziest thing is, when the stores in our area enter the January slump, they cut prices to below boxing day sales levels!!!!! So, if you want to wait, do it in the comfort of your own home. The wait is a little longer, but you will save more money.

Managed to find a good few bargains at M&S however the Q's at the check out were far too long and I would have had to wait at least an hour... so put my stuff back and walked out: Madness :

New years sales, or rather the bringing them earlier and earlier, are the reason that all the retailers complain about pre christmas shopping targets being down, well, that and the fact that they set the targets too high.
