Lazy Binmen
i live on a small cul-de-sac and every bin day sure enough all the residents put out their bins, facing the right way, on the curb etc as instructed, then about an hour before the bin wagon arrives a man who i can only describe his job as being a `fluffer`(now thats a term for you to look up!) lol, collects all the bins together and dumps them at the end of my drive totally blocking it, obviously so the hard working binmen have less ground to cover, the bins are then dumped back in front of my drive and are left there for the rest of the day. how annoying.i remember once of a day binmen had to collect the bin from where ever it was.. down you`re drive, back yard etc and they would even take black bags....wow, they are payed to move wheelie bins , i am not so i`ll be on the phone to get this obstruction moved.:mad:i know i might sound like a grumpy sod but well i suppose i am......do you`re job binmen!!

Re: Lazy Binmen
pipinfort i dont think yer a grumpy sod, had a problem with the binmen re-wheely bins,a couple of months ago, they left next doors wheely in front of mine, so i moved next doors into the back n got mine, was just putting it in the yard n a real nasty piece of work (bin man) shouted at me not to leave a bin in back, as i had intended to put it back in front of next doors, i gave him a real gobfull n said words to the effect that i was n if he didnt shut it i would,:D that is more grumpy i think than you could ever be.;)

Re: Lazy Binmen
What a bleeding cheek,,, i thought ours were A lazy lot just clutering up the pavemement ,instead of putting them back on the drive,,,,
|
Re: Lazy Binmen
and they`ve refused to take my sister in laws cardboard today because its neatly bundled up in a black bag!!!! WHAT??? who do they think they are?
|
Re: Lazy Binmen
I often have to play hunt the wheelie bin on bin day because ours can end up being left anywhere after they've emptied it.

Re: Lazy Binmen
You lot really need to get yourselves a council leader living in your neighbourhood.:D
As I've said many times, backed up by Neil, the collection servive in Ossy can't be faulted, and they even send a man round the next day to sweep up any stray rubbish, and bins are always returned to where they were left. |
Re: Lazy Binmen
Mine isn't. I keep it by the front door of the stairwell (flats).
My bin never gets more than a quarter full, so I don't always drag it to the roadside verge for emptying, but the binman does, and then I have to drag it back, because he doesn't put it back where he got it from. I'm not complaining - not much effort needed |
Re: Lazy Binmen
my bin is taken from the back gate, the bin men are always friendly (i am usually stood out side having a fag) i always get my bin back and my recycling bags are put on my door handle... i have no problems with my bin men
|
Re: Lazy Binmen
i too have never had any complaints with the bin men. i think they have quite a hard kob and there just trying to get on with it.
|
Re: Lazy Binmen
It's nowhere near as hard a job as it was in the days of metal bins full of ashes which had to be lifted and tipped manually into the truck. It's a doddle these days in comparison.

How can wheeling a few bin's about be classed as hard work? It was harder work when they had black bags to carry about. |
Re: Lazy Binmen
its not exactly a fun job tho is it? i feel sorry for the guy up at the tip that has to root round other peoples rubbish to make sure its in the right place... he must smell great at the end of the day...
|
Re: Lazy Binmen
No job can ever be as hard as mining coal - which many of the last generation did.
Whenever I hear a man complain about his job I often reply 'better than working in the pit' |
Re: Lazy Binmen
my friend was a bin man, in the days where they held onto the side of the waggon instead of getting in and out everytime, he feel off and under the wheels and lost his leg.... he didnt get any comp because the council said they told them not too....
|
Re: Lazy Binmen
My binmen come to my back door and take the bin and empty and bring it back to my back door. Im on the assisted scheme .. so no need for dragging it up to the gate and leaving it out, they come and drag it up there and drag it back.

Re: Lazy Binmen
Do you have a letter A painted on your bin? I have heard about this provision for the disabled. I might qualify, having arthritis in neck and shoulders.
|
Re: Lazy Binmen
my cousins baby is disabled and they dont qualify because she is not disabled... she cant leave the baby alone but still has to drag her bin to the end of the back street...

Oooh that's a good idea. I'd never heard of that. I did wonder how disabled people manage.

Re: Lazy Binmen
Another point to add to a post i started awhile back(ahem).......why, on recycling day when i get home from work do we have nearly as much recycling scattered on our front street than we had in our bags and boxes in the first place????? After emptying my own bins for 6 weeks over dec/jan am i now expected to clean the streets for the council as well????

Re: Lazy Binmen
When you get a minute,my hoover bag is full.:D:D

i dont recycle yet my garden ends up full of everone elses rubbish and when i rang up to complain i was told that they send a crew around to tidy up afterwards but they cant enter my garden on the grounds of health and safety. This must be because of the 6ft deep trenches i have dug and the landmines i have scattered accross my lawn i assume  basically i have to tidy OTHER peoples crap because the collection team cant hit literaly the back of a bin waggon with a milk bottle and this is assuming i mangae to dodge the local verminous cats crap, between HBC and the local vermin i can see why the clean up team dont want to enter my garden. i may purchase a high powered air rifle for one of teh problems but havnt yet decided what to use on teh cats :) |
Re: Lazy Binmen
The refuse team in Rishton are superb and I always give them a tip at Christmas as they have saved a few people on our street an awful lot of money. Many of our residents are elderly and they're usually willing to get rid of any extra items for them within reason. On the odd occasion that there has been a bin bag left out by someone or (heaven forbid) a lid hasn't been fully closed there's no messing about leaving things behind either.
A superb bunch and we'd be lost without them. Look at the uproar in January when they couldn't get to us at all. |

To give our binmen their dues, they did at least try to get the truck down Bridge Street in Rishton which is more than I would have dared to do. To watch several tons of wagon ice skating with no real finesse wasn't very comfortable. |

I am not sure who we should be blaming for the lack of grit supplies, the current or previous Council. I know the Government got involved to deside who should get the supplies of grit once the problem occured. |

Again, the borough councils are spending our money and it should be prioritised for things which are likely to affect all of us, not buildings costing hundreds of thousands of pounds in one ward that will be used by one group of people. |
Re: Lazy Binmen
does anyone recall how much of our money was spent on that funfair ride they put on braodway alone to celebrate the mayor or somthing i think it was around 10 grand and to top it off it was £5 a go plus the cost of repairing teh damage it did to the pavement on broadway
why does the council spend so much on clebrating a mayor the only people who give a toss about the mayor is teh mayor himself and his councilor buddies and friends because apart from them there is no benefit what so ever of having a mayor that i can see that gold chain around the mayors neck should have been put in an envolope and sent to cash for gold ages ago , that coulda bought some gritt if funds were low lol |

Re: Lazy Binmen
i complained to the council about the bins. next collection i heared the driver shout to one of the loaders make sure you put the bin back at 26 that you know what moaned about it.
it was the only time the bin was put back. |
Re: Lazy Binmen
I had a large wheelie bin, and a small wheelie bin when i arrived here, they were emptied for the first couple of weeks, then the large one disappeared, as it is a cul de sac and always neighbours around, it wasnt taken by a neighbour, so there are two choices, the bin wagon ate it (and I have seen this happen, and they didnt have the decency to let the owner know), or the bin men (the council deny all knowledge), took it because we had two, if this is the case, the fact that there are seven people in the house, and they took the bigger bin, and left the small bin, speaks volumes!

Re: Lazy Binmen
What do you mean my big and small? Is the normal bin everyone has the big one?
I know there used to be bigger than normal bins but the machine did keep damaging them and they broke with the weight that was in them so Hyndburn stopped using them ages ago. Not sure if any are still left, there may be a few. |
Re: Lazy Binmen
There are 3 sizes that I am aware of, small one for single people, normal sized one for small to medium family, and large for large family (large being larger than the normal one), I have seen a few around, I wasnt aware that they broke the machinery, cheap machinery? Typical!! :D

Re: Lazy Binmen
I sometimes wonder whether I should ask for a small one, since mine is rarely half full, but then there are those rare times when it is easier to use the bin than visit the tip when I am having a 'clear out' - put an old rug and Sky box in there this week:o

Re: Lazy Binmen
Back in the days of coal fires and steel dust bins the bin men had to lift the heavy bing shoulder high and tip it into a lorry, no complaints then, just happy to have a job as the benifit system wasn't as easy to get onto as it is today.
Anyway back to the modern age (?) Our bin men are OK they come through our gate for the wheelie bin and replace it afterwards no complaints, we did have big "A" on the bin because we are OAP's but the bin has been replaced and no "A" is on it. The driver has a print out in his cab and the men know who should have the bins taken out and returned. The "A" system was replaced, so I am told, because some old gent who lived in a council bungalow for the elderly complained that robbers would know an elderly person lived there, in a bungalow for the elderly. Gremlin R.T. Oh I forgot to mention that my wife always gives the binmen a tenner at Christmas out of her old age pension. |
