Do you know anyone in Luton? Credit Card fraud at Shell garage

Might be worth getting them to check their Credit Card statement or bank balance if they have used a card at the Shell garage in Luton.

A BurneyWebber has had their card cloned there and a fraud taken place. A friend of hers used the same garage, had the same happen. She lost £209 and two further attempts were stopped, the friend lost over £400.

Withdrawals show up as coming from Australia.

apparently there is a lot of credit card fraud starting at petrol stations... not sure why tho... i used to work in a petrol station and we heard about it alot.. there is a higher chance if you give them your card to swipe instead of using the new machines, there are machines that copy your card details that they could put your card into before swiping it.....an ex was arrested for credit card fraud, copied the details and then used then on the internet...

Re: Do you know anyone in Luton? Credit Card fraud at Shell garage

I had my id nicked 2 years ago...someone from dorset used my id to furnish a flat, buy half of comet and even set up direct debits...I had 3 seperate money chasing companies after me...took me 12 months to finally get through to them that I was not the person they were after - I had to fax a copy of my pasport to the police in dorset who had a picture/cctv still of the real guy they were after to eliminate me from it all....it was all done through the abbey national in dorset and I also had to prove I had never been to that branch.
I was told to go to my local branch with a copy of a letter given by me from abbey head office and have them sign it to say I had never been in the abbey mentioned, but the staff at the abbey in accy read the letter wrong and called the police as they thought I was trying to close the stolen account - they came to this conclusion because....now you may laugh....

because I was scottish..and in accrington...they wondered why a scottish person would come into a branch in accrington - thats the excuse that came out..
they made me sit for 2 hours whilst the manager got onto the fraud dept. and try to sort it out..bearing in mind I only wanted a letter signed and stamped...eventually it was sorted out and I went on my way - but I fired off a letter to abbey head office complaining about the way I was treated and made to feel like a criminal in front of their customers and staff etc.

the letter back profusely apologised about the way I was treated and that certain staff had been disciplined due to the whole scenario and my treatment and they sent a cheque for £500 for the whole id being nicked and hassle throughout...
which did calm me slightly but now I always shred my paperwork and no longer have bank statements through the post.
you live and learn.

Just before Christmas our credit card company phoned us, someone was trying to use our card details, not sure why they suspected it wasn't us but glad they did, they put an immediate stop on the cards, issued us with new ones and new pin numbers.

I once managed to use my credit card in Texas, buying half an oil well by the looks of it! Fotunately I managed to convince the CC company that it wasn't me as I was at work in the very same bank at the time. I got the money refunded.

They could put your account in the red up to your credit limit.
That is why I always ask for my card limit to be REDUCED to what I know I will need

Can't see any reason why not -but it is less attractive to crooks because the limit (overdraft facility) will be lower

Unless you have a nice healthy balance in your account that they can clean out.

My mum had her credit card cloned at a petrol station she'd used it at.

Someone went on a spending spree in Benidorm with it.
