Just imagine how much they would turnover if they charged M&S prices :D

Re: Accrington asda turnover in 2weeks.

'Turnover' isn't the same as profit.
They don't have any competition in Accy.

Speedy 04-01-2008 22:13

Re: Accrington asda turnover in 2weeks.

Turnover is how much went through the tills, profit is how much is left in the tills once everything is paid for. (Correct me if im wrong). But still its a hell of a lot of money.

Re: Accrington asda turnover in 2weeks.

I'm not surprised. Especially as I was ripped off without realising (the first time) until I got home!

Pre xmas I bought a small swede, looking at my receipt when I got home, I discovered I had been charged £1.28 for potatoes (which I hadn't bought) instead!

Went in there this week bought some veg at 50p each paid for it and found I had been charged 68p each for it!

It took me half an hour of queing to be refunded the difference. I wasn't the only one either.

How many of us actually check our receipts before leaving the store especially if you are doing a weeks shopping and not just buying 'bits' like I did?

Just think how vibrant and exciting the market would be if ASDA hadn't taken all the business from it. And now the council that wants to re-vamp the market is planning to allow another supermarket to open in the town.....goodbye accy market, it was nice knowing you.

Re: Accrington asda turnover in 2weeks.

How many people live in Accy? How much per head would that work out at being spent in Asda?

Acrylic-bob 05-01-2008 14:13

Re: Accrington asda turnover in 2weeks.

Roughly £35 per head for every man woman and child in the borough as a whole.

Why would it?
Most of us would just go to another town to shop at Asda or Tesco. It would have been short sighted of the Council to say no to Asda on the grounds it would kill the market. The market would have died anyway as many people would have shoped at supermarket's elsewhere. We might have well try and keep some local jobs by having our own Asda.
I think this is especially true with the advent of online shopping. Almost every day I see a Tesco or Asda or other supermarket delivering online bought groceries on the streets around me.

I always check my till receipt before leaving the shop I have bought goods in, and quite often have to query the price I have been charged.

I very rarely shop in Asda, find staff very unhelpful and can never find things I need. I did go into Asda on this Thursday for some things I had needed urgently and bought 3 packets of chesse (which were clearly marked on the shelf as being 3 packs for £3.00). I went throught the self service till and found that the price reduction had not been applied to my bill, i went th the customer services to query this, and was told I was mistaken about the price (without any checking of what I was saying about the prices marked on the shelves). So I said they could have all the cheese back and to give me a refund - which they did. I also told them I now knew why I normally shopped in Tesco. Do Asda not train their staff to answer customer's queries politely, or do they think because their turnover is so large, it doesn't matter if they offend some customers.

In my experience the bigger the company the worse the service.

What ya'mean by crap cashman ? Most supermarkets sell the same products, and their home brands are very good. Also, Tesco's even Sainsbury's and M & S meats don't hold a candle to Asda's meats. So what crap do you buy then ?

In defence of the local Co-ops Speedy, I visit the Ossy one, but just at lunch time to get sandwich/cigs .. never had a problem and always a till open. Occasionally at the cigarette counter, there has been a long queue and the assistant has been stuck with a query with one customer, and they don't appear to recognise this and open the other till... only happened a couple of times though.

Great Harwood: always plenty of tills open here.

Clayton: Up to about 12 months ago, would have said big, big problem .. long queues down the aisles and only one assistant. Assistants 'shouting' down the aisles for extra help, however, they now appear to have got their act together and have a P.A. system and at 'rush' times .. usually between just after 5 >> 6 0'clock, they respond very quickly now and queue soon dispersed.

Will look out for your name badge Bernie and say Hi. Find they are all now very polite at Clayton, one young lad just knows what I am there for in the main, and has my fags ready as soon as he sees me in the queue

Also, that new young lad Jamie ? he calls you Sir and Ma'am .. little American, but like it. LOL.

Norma always has a lovely smile on her face. Yes, think all the staff there are fine now.

Ya' numpty !! Well, could ask, I suppose, if there are any extra services provided (anyway you edited my sentence then :p).

Wonder what turn over they had over Christmas .. always busy, but more of a convenience shop, most people probably go to the bigger supermarkets for their big buy and the Co-op get the sales of goods for the items people have forgotten. Like extra bacardi.. :D

Gotta' submit their plans yet howarth, when you see it, you can be sure they will get .. don't usually submit until they are positive of a go ahead.
