End Of An Era
Amazed nobody has mentioned Vera's demise. Poor Jack will have nobody to nag him now :(

Re: End Of An Era
I only caught the second programme............so I only got to see when she had died and she was on the settee.
Was it emotional prior to that......is it worth me watching the omnibus? |
Re: End Of An Era
i have to admit to sitting there tears streaming down my face and feeling heartbroken.

Re: End Of An Era
It was very sad, but what a peaceful way to go....Hang on a minute its only a soap:D
I were surprised that there weren't a Vera thread though. |
Re: End Of An Era
it was so sad it brought back memories of my mum who died a few months ago and how upset my dad was as they had been together for years like jack and vera.

Re: End Of An Era
I've never really taken to Jack and Ve.
She was funny back in the old days at Baldwin's Casuals, with her best mate Ivy Tillsley. Always ready to skive, or call a strike, and all very Rag Trade. The last ten years or so, the writers have given her a bum deal, and in my opinion have made her a bit pathetic, with Jack and Vera becoming little more than pantomime characters, which I think is unfair to Liz Dawn, who could easily have risen to the challenge of a meatier role. It was sad. I'm sure people that watched all imagined the times when they've faced death, and yes I shed a tear, only one mind, when Tyrone hugged Vera's grandson Paul, even though he knows he's a bad un. |
Re: End Of An Era
I shed a few tears and 'im indoors 'filled up' too. It was really well done though and very true to life.
My daughter sent a text just after it finished............'never mind mum, at least he has a pigeon'!! |
Re: End Of An Era
I do wish she had gone to live in Blackpool.
It's so much more comforting when characters just move away. It's nice to think of Mavis in the Lake District, and Hilda Ogden 'doing' for Dr. Lowther in a village in Derbyshire.:D |
Re: End Of An Era
I think putting the whole 'Ryan going missing' in the same episode as poor old Vera dying was a bit disrepectful *cant think of another word*,considering how long she has been in it.......could have made the rest of it a bit nicer.
Must admit i nearly cried, but just kept reminding myself that shes not really dead. |

Like all good drama we can relate to it. We don't really cry for them, we cry for ourselves. |
