Have You Bought A Microwave from Asda ?

If so they have recalled some of their own brand ones;

Re: Have You Bought A Microwave from Asda ?

I got rid of my last microwave oven about 8 years ago.
I once had one which did set afire.
I was using it when I saw a flash shoot from right to left inside the oven area, and found a large hole where the interior casing was blackened and melted on the interior right side.
I had been using it properly and the damage was NOT due to the food igniting, but the part which emits the wave had burnt through the interior casing.

I dont recommend their use anyway because they do alter the nutritional value of the food (for the worse)

I have to say that I use a microwave quite a lot, you see I'm lazy by nature, but I did have a fright not long ago. I used to pop a plate into the microwave just to warm it before serving food, until one day there was a loud bang and the plate shattered into a thousand pieces, I don't do that any more:rolleyes:

That was IMPROPER use - read the instructions....or, better still send the evil thing to landfill.

Margaret your quite correct, but isant it the case, you do something once then say sod, and carry on regardless. the thing is I had been doing this for years with the same plate, but I don't now

I ask you to consider WHY you eat.
To nourish your body?................... or just to satisfy hunger?
If you eat microwaved food you are just doing the 2nd option.
What a waste of money!

I have one of these.....and it was bought as a stop gap, with a promise of a better one.
I have to say it is utter 'bobbins'....which proves what I always say......you get what you pay for.
Needless to say it is going to be taken back and I WILL have a better model.
I don't use the microwave very often, but hubby does.

I wouldn’t touch Asda white goods if they paid me. An electric kettle from them lasted just 7 months before it went bang. A non-stick milk pan started going rusty under the chrome rim. They both went back for a refund.

My Proline microwave came from Comet and has lasted over 7 years without a problem. But then I don’t abuse it.

I have had other appliances from Asda that have been perfectly reasonable...but branded goods rather than their own brand.......hubby coerced me into buying this bit of trash, saying we could use this until we saw one we liked better.(cheapskate)!

Loss of nutrition using a microwave? Sorry but any loss will be dependant on in how much water and for how long it is cooked just like in an ordinary cooking method!

Microwave and Nutritional Value

I prefer to believe Hans Hertel & Bernard H. Blanc of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University Institute for Biochemistry rather than
Shereen Jegtvig (your 'certified nutrition specialist')

I have read your link - have you read mine?

I like using my microwave for doing scrambled eggs:D....it beats burning the pan, which I tend to do most the time:p

You can’t do scrambled eggs in a microwave.

For proper scrambled eggs you have to keep stirring them all the time and then take them off the heat before they are completely cooked. The internal heat finishes them off.

Try Anolon pans and stick a tiny bit of oil in the pan before scrambling. I could burn the ar$e out of any pan, but can even scramble eggs in an Anolon without it sticking..:D

Re: Have You Bought A Microwave from Asda ?

ok i took my micro back to asda today, stood in line with the others who were returning theirs, well i got my money back and decided to go and get another, the micro was only a cheap one as its hardly used, the cheapest that asda had was £34.99 now thats £15.00 more than i had paid for the recalled one, so i decided to buy one from argos instead.

Microwave = good for rapid warming up of baked beans and making soup explode, good at defrosting the mince you forgot to take out of the freezer, rubbish at everything else. :)
