This is getting silly

An item on Breakfast this morning made me think how much things have changed since I first tied the knott back in the 60s. It now appears that 1 in 5 brides insist that bribes maids sign a kind of pre-nup saying that they will not put weight on, get pregnant or have get any unsightly tanlines before the big day. What ever happen to the brides best friend doing the honours as a sign of their friendship over many years and being there on that special day. What with the cost of weddings now into telephone number sums, just where is it going to stop:confused:

So the wedding is more of a show than a personal commitment between two people?

And there was me thinking it was so they would not have to have the dresses altered at great expense how silly of me:D

I think that its just a sign of the times where material things come above anything else GC, and I can't say its for the better

More often than not - yes it is. The couples who get married after God alone knows how many years together and several children don't do it for the sake of commitment, they do it for display. I think it's become the next step down from the debs' ball in the social scheme of things. :p

I dont think thats true in all cases-some people do it after 'God alone knows how many years together and several children' because they have had to save up,or they know for sure they want to be together forever.Yea maybe they are saving for a fairytale wedding but if thats what they want then fair enough-its their day.Its not always just for show.
Plus some would rather others got married after being together for a long time rather than getting wed after a couple of years together-before knowing its definately meant to be....especially with the high divorce rates these days.

As for the bridesmaids having to sign agreements....what a load of cr@p that is.That def proves it for show.....how sad.

My only argument with that is why not do it the way we used to? You got engaged and you saved like mad (and so did your parents) and you had the big white wedding and then you moved in together and had children.

To be fair, though, all "white" weddings are a big show, really, aren't they? :)

I would never marry a guy i hadn't lived with-you find out what they are REALLY like when you live together.....alot different to when they live with their mum.

Hopefully all weddings are a big show-of how much two people love each other :)

I don't think it is surprising. I'm not sure whether contracting is the right way to go about it but nobody want to fork out loads of mone for bridesmaids dresses just for them to get fatter and have to have them altered or hve them bulging out of their dresses.

I'd simply not let them be on the wedding pictures. Or why not hire actors for the day and have lots of beautiful people around you. :D
