Very annnoyed.

Buy Brian the Brain. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

I'm very annoyed. I bought the above item in December 2007 for a Christmas present for my son. I paid £79.99 for it.

Now Argos are selling it for £19.99, that's £60 cheaper!

Has this ever happened to you? Did you complain and if so what was the outcome?

How can you complain? Things lose value over time, even short spaces of time like that.

Don't cars lose a couple of grands worth of value the moment they leave the showroom? Least they didn't put the price dont the moment you left the shop, maybe then i'd complain but not likely :p

The toy looks ace though at least, I hope he's got a lot of use out of it.

I wouldn't have thought complaining would do any good to be honest. That's why I was asking if anyone ever has done so and if it got them anywhere.

Damn frustrating though.

That is one consolation. It is something that he really enjoys playing with.

It happens all the time Lilly, you know this, you aren’t that daft. The buggers will most likely still be making a profit on it at £19.99. The High Street giants have us for mugs all year round.

Have a glass of wine or summat and calm down :D

I bought a computer in 1996 and it cost me £1000. I notice you can now buy a much better one for around £250!!!

Is there any way I'd get a refund?

West Ender 08-02-2008 20:58

Re: Very annnoyed.

I don't think you have grounds to complain as it's the same as any other goods being sold at knock-down prices after Christmas. Argos shows the original price in the description and I'd guess they over-estimated how many they would sell and have been left with a few on their hands. It is galling, though, I agree.

Maybe we should celebrate Christmas in February.

Very funny. :p

I bought this 2 months ago, not 12 years ago.

I once bought Mick a gold chain from there and the next day was the start of the free gift voucher wys £50 and £100 i asked if they would give me the voucher or do they want me to refund the item and buy it again the next day so i could have the voucher. They went off the talk to the manager and came back and gave me the voucher!

If you dont ask you dont get.!

So? You cant expect it to be priced £79.99 forever.

The item was reduced sixty pounds in under two months! She has ever right to be fuming!

you could always take the toy back and say it is faulty and get a refund. go back in 10 minutes later and buy one at sale price. :D

I think I once tried to take something back once it was on sale and they said I can only have it back for the price it was reduced to. Cant remember where or what it was though, I think I kicked up a fuss and got the full amount in the end.

2 months is a bit long too :(

Re: Very annnoyed.

Its exactly like buying something 3 days before christmas and then on boxing day the sale price is half price.

It is annoying but hes had 2 months of playing with it, you saw his face when he opened it on christmas day, is that not worth the £60?

They cant do that if you paid full price and have a receipt to prove you paid full price they have to refund you full price and you could have had the item for 11 months you should still get full price back the item is guarantee'd for 12 months. :)

No the item is guaranteed to be MENDED or REPLACED for 12 months, not refunded.

Refunds are usually 14-21 days.

Well I guess ladyluck wasn't on her side on this occasion. Its the price we pay for having gifts to open on Christmas Day. We're now halfway through February, I see no problem with the price reduction.

You can still get your full value back if over the 14-21 days Blazey under the warranty. (although sometimes only vouchers)

I had to take a phone system back which I had had for 4 months, liaised with BT on this and agreed was faulty and to take it back to Argos for a refund. Was no problem with this .. except bought when on offer which they frantically searched for the price then (had no receipt by this time, had to obtain bank statement). Hmmph ... didn't offer me the now price refund ... :D

Didn't want the same one (could have got replacement of course).. couldn't trust it and had to purchase a different one, but didn't get this at the price it was when buying the other .. this was on offer then too.

Think I would be feeling a little miffed here Lilly, however, looks like some buyer didn't get his figures right. There seems to be lots of good clearance buys in Argos at the mo. prior to their new catalogue coming out. Would be good if you could predict what yer kids will want next Christmas I suppose.. and buy them now if ya' have any money left, that is ... :D

However, if the said item was to become faulty it could be returned for a refund.

Then you could repurchase the cheaper one. :D

Maybe the question should be why did you spend £80 on a toy that was obviously not worth it even then.

Is this not what the January Sales are all about?????

We all know when we're Christmas shopping that the majority of items will be reduced by boxing day lol

My crystal ball was out of order therefore I was not aware that the thing would be reduced by £60 two months later. :p

As Shillelagh said, he was very happy to open the toy on Christmas day and has played with it a lot since so that lessens the pain a bit. :)

Thanks for all your comments, I realise that this sort of thing is not uncommon and would not have expected to get anywhere with a complaint. That's why I posted this, to see if anyone had actually complained and what the outcome was. I'm mulling over the possibility of taking it back and getting another at sale price....just need to locate the receipt. :D

Re: Very annnoyed.

I would be more than a bit miffed too but you have to look at it this way. You were willing to pay £79.99 for it. You must have thought it was worth £79.99 at the time when you bought it or presumably you wouldn't have paid that much for it. The fact that it's now on sale for such a ridiculous reduction is really irrelevant. I don't think you'd get anywhere if you complained.
