Following this piece in the Telegraph, has anyone heard anything more about what is happening to Accrington Railway Station?

How does a building with nothing in it except for a ticket office with people working in it once in a blue moon (and the occasional corpse), have a bad affect on the environment? |

Re: eco station ??????
What an utter load of twaddle. How much energy is going to be consumed knocking the old one down and building the new one. I'm assuming that you're station is pretty modern and the loss wont be great ? One of the greatest mistakes tamworth ever made was agreeing to this type of scheme during the great rebuild to accommodate the birmingham over spill. every time the station is mentioned out come the pics of how it used to look and that the council made a huge mistake knocking it down. Which they did of course. Out smaller versions listed, but that's irrelevant, point is, is it really green and how long, if ever will people be happy to use it for.

According to the article planning permission has been granted. I was just wondering when, or if work is going to start. Perhaps the wonderful Councillor Jones could enlighten us?????

Re: eco station ??????
I think it's part of the greater scheme of things for the all singing all dancing new town centre improvements and as such I'm all in favour of it.

We do need a decent station with loos and a waiting room to shelter from the wind/rain/snow/sleet /hailstones whilst waiting for the overcrowded train to arrive. |
Re: eco station ??????
By modern I meant not victorian listed, I meant bus shelters etc, sorry for the confusion.
So it's needed then, but I bet it's a truly awful design that will quickly become vandalised, dated and unpopular. Who's going to maintain all this environmentally friendly technology. Do railtrack have staff with knowledge of wind turbines. Don't think so. Pleased you've getting a new station though, just think it would be better if it was a nice traditional station, with nice architecture to match the town. It is after all a gateway to your town. |
