Beware! Beware! they are out to get you.
Just come back from Asda and who was parked on the car park?
The DVLA road tax camera/clamping van. As a arrived back home what did I see? One of my neighbours with a DVLA wheel clamp on. they drive around in the van, the camera system picks up un taxed vehicles on the road and they inform the clampers who come along and clamp you. You have 24 hours (ish) to provide proof of road tax or they lift and tow it away. |

But I have a problem with action being taken on a PRIVATE CAR PARK. The Asda car park and other private car parks are not part of the public highway and thus not subject to the public highway laws. Taking Asda as an example, but this would apply to all private car parks – unless Asda has specific rules published on the car park to the contrary, a kid of ten could drive around without an MOT, if applicable, Road Tax or Insurance. If you have a driveway and it is long enough, your teenage son/daughter can drive up and down it in a car that would be classed as dangerous, without an MOT, insurance or Road Tax and the law could do nothing about it, providing that the vehicle has a SORN declaration and the driving is not causing a nuisance to the neighbours. The only notice that I have ever seen at Asda, Grimshaw Park, Blackburn is the one about them not being liable for any damage or theft from your vehicle and the occasional product recalls. I accept that getting to and away from the car park under its own power the vehicle must comply with the public highway laws but that is another discussion. As much as I agree totally and completely with vehicles without Road Tax and probably insurance and MOT should be taken off the road, hanging round supermarket car parks to find them is below the belt and further evidence that we are sleepwalking into the Big Brother scenario. Pause for thought. Which group of people are most likely to run an illegal car? The establishment and aristocracy? Nah! The fat cats and captains of industry then? Nah! OK! Senior management? Nah! Middle management? Unlikely! Let me guess! The low paid, sick and unemployed? |

Re: Beware! Beware! they are out to get you.
Must admit was a little nervouse myself this morning.
Hired a car, whilst mine is having a damage repair done (no, not my fault). Brand spanking new Vauxhall Vectra .. still got labels all over it. They rang me last night to tell me forgotten to put the tax disc in .. course I never noticed .. :o They assured me was taxed, but suppose I still could have got booked for not displaying ? Was a little nervous as I had to fill up with petrol before going to car hirers to pick up disc. Glad I didn't see this post first. Pleased they are catching the dodgers though. |

good, dont matter that they are in the low paid bracket etc jambutty, these same dodgers are also unlikely to be insured, which if yer involved in an accident with one, you will certainly find out.

Re: Beware! Beware! they are out to get you.
My mates mum got pulled over this morning on the way down the M65 for not having any insurance. She got zapped by one of those new devices that checks number plates. Only problem was she did have insurance and argued blind with the Police that they had it wrong but was asked to produce her documents to the Police Station.
By the time the Policeman let her go it was too late and she had missed an extremely important meeting at work where people had travelled some distance to get too and as a result of this has she thinks she has lost her opportunity for the contract she was hoping for. I wonder if they offer compensation in these instances? |

I think we should all have to carry the cars documents when we are driving like they do in Spain. Save all the producer messing about. She would have shown her documents and been away.

the police were doing their job and as far as am concerned did the right thing detaining her until satisfied she was ok to carry on,if anyone is at fault regarding insurance it will probably be the insurance companys fault due to admin error wonder how prople would feel if she was let go and ran a child over rushing to her meeting and then it turned out she wasnt insured ps: iv learned to talk nice to cops when pulled over, been narky and argumentitive dosnt speed them up infact its more likely to slow them down even if you are in the right |
Re: Beware! Beware! they are out to get you.
Yes I agree also I'm not disputing them pulling her over and I agree that is what should be done. But she was pulled over because it flashed up on their records that she had no insurance, when she did, and somehow this had been missed from the system which isn't her fault and has maybe cost her. Just bad luck I guess.
