Toxic Airlines

A week or two ago, some of you might remember, I sort of hijacked the cheap chicken debate, sorry. Well Toxic fumes in Passenger Aircraft came up and a story in the Mail was posted.
I got this this morning from a fellow pilot and thought it might be worth sharing.

Toxic Free Airlines

All I can say is thank god the Boeing 737 is not one of those affected (yet!)

Kate - it was me that raised this topic in that other thread he mentions.

I am just thankful that more people are becoming aware that toxins in the air we breathe are as harmful as toxins in our food.

I know some of you think I am a bit of a nut case keep going on about it, but since it has been raised again -

petrochemicals are damaging to health whether you eat them, breathe them , or slap them on your skin.

Guide to Less Toxic Products?

Somebody has to keep banging on about these things, otherwise, we still would believe the earth is flat. !

I do. I reckon [email protected] is a direct descendant of either Demdike or Chattox. If this was some 400 yrs ago (1612 to be exact) she'd have been swinging from the gallows in Lancaster with rest of 'em.:D:D

LOL - many a true word spoken in jest ;)

"A Witches'
Herbal Reference

Before we begin, here's a bit of trivia some may not know. We've all seen the Hollywood rendentions of Witches stirring their bubbling cauldrons with big black pointy hats and adding eye of this or wing of that right... It was pretty spooky as a kid huh.

Actually those names didn't represent anitomical parts of animals, insects, reptiles or even people for that matter. In the old times, those interesting names were given to specific herbs, plants or flowers as a way of guarding the ingredients of what the healers used in their remedies, kind of like keeping a trade secret in a way.

So, with that covered, another myth bites the dust... :)

Ok, on with our discussion of Magickal Herbs... Just as plants, herbs and trees have inherent magickal abilities and powers to heal. In this, they offer their powers and benefits to the knowledgeable Witch."

I dabble in herbalism too :D

It was very disturbing that the pilot and co-pilot were quite often on the verge of passing out and having to resort to using their oxygen:(

I think you have to ask the question Bernie, just what the hell is going on, these pilots have hundreds of people in their care whilst they are up there in the clouds and if the pilots are having to use oxygen then something is very, very wrong. The problem is my other half flew out of Manchester at 6-30 this morning, knowing that didn't actually make for good nights sleep for me

In my websearching about toxic air I found this alarming report that a plug in air freshener caused a house to be burnt to the ground
Air Purifiers; Indoor Air Quality News & Information; Articles; Blogs & Recommendations - Flash! Must Read Information
"dump those junkie little air fresheners, throw them in the garbage! They are just blowing chemical poisonous toxins into your air and you also run the risk of a dangerous fire!"

I bet it didn't Jaysay, wouldn't you think there would be a much safer way of getting air into the cabin??? The case of the pilot who was signed off sick and all his symptoms went but within a short time of going back to flying started to deteriorate again speaks volumes to me.

I did not get to see the program, I was down in deep Africa at the time, got back this morning. My wife has recorded it on Sky Plus and I will watch it when I go home next month.
Yes it is scary, the problem with anything like this is that it costs money, and until people die then nothing will get done.
But to put this in perspective, the aircraft types that are affected, thankfully are few. In the case of the 757 it's no longer in production. Remember that flying is safer than the drive to the airport.

Is the answer not to just remove the aircraft types that are affected from service??? Surely that is a better solution than waiting till people lose their lives.

Yes BG it does cost money, but not doing anthing about it until people are killed cannot be acceptable in this day and age. As you say overall air travel is safer than going to the airport by car, the only trouble is when a plan goes down hundreds are killed in one go, and that IS very very scary.

I am flying with Thomson's, sure everything will be fine. More cars crash than planes fall out of the sky........ I hope hee hee :)

My mum told me to sit at the back of the plane, cos planes never back into mountains :D

Re: Toxic Airlines

Jaysay, I could not agree with you more, us aircrew really are at the poiny end. However airlines are run by bean counters and they have more sway over the rest of us. Just like the car industry people have to die before changes are made.

Slinky, Thompsonfly are a good outfit, I am sure your flight will be fine. Just a small coulpe of tips, Read the safety card, listen to the briefing, count how many rows between you and you nearest exit (I always do this). Like your thought on the rear of the plane, maybe thats why the 'black boxes' are at the rear
