Fags & Booze Up
11p on fags, 4p on a pint and 15p on a bottle of wine.
No need to panic though, child benefit is going up to offset the cost :D |

Re: Fags & Booze Up
Ooh! Goody, i can't wait till i'm at work at the pub this weekend then when our prices have gone up!!
Also last year I found a Budget Calculator that once you'd filled in told you if you were going to be better off. I can't seem to find one yet this year, anyone know of one? |
Re: Fags & Booze Up
Its ok i've found one now here:
BBC NEWS | Special Reports | 629 | 629 | Budget calculator 2008 I should be about £276.40 better off next year. That'll do nicely. :) |

Looks good to me too Lolly, according to their calculations I'll be just under a grand better off ! :D ( not holding my breath on this one !)

Re: Fags & Booze Up
Although our tobacco and fags have to go up at 6pm tonight
|
Re: Fags & Booze Up
The 4p and the 11p increases respectively are made when the booze and fags leave the brewery/bonded warehouse after the time specification; in the case of booze you should see the first price rises by the weekend; it may take several weeks for the fags increase to work it's way through the system. Your local corner shop may well take early advantage, however.
Don't forget, though, that the increase is on duty and VAT applies on this duty - so your actual increase will probably be 5p and 13p. |
Re: Fags & Booze Up
I dont drink..(hardly:rolleyes:)...dont smoke so this dont effect me:D

Re: Fags & Booze Up
Think about it, years ago we used to pay for carrier bags, 1p at kwik save or 5p for stronger ones......think about it we still do pay for carrier bags, they just put the price on the food:rolleyes:
as kwik save used to say..."theres no such thing as a free carrier bag!!"....:D |
Re: Fags & Booze Up
I just done the test and it says that im £NaN better off well i dont know what that means but it dont sound good
|
Re: Fags & Booze Up
The changes to PAYE tax bandings were announced previously will mean quite a lot of people will be paying more.
All earnings above the tax allowance will be taxed at 20%, whereas before there was an interim band at 10%. This will not affect me because the over 65s tax allowances have been increased to compensate for it. |

Re: Fags & Booze Up
You'd be so suprised just how many people reuse their carrier bags at Tesco. Its a question us on the checkout now have to ask: "Are you reusing any of your bags?" Then: "Do you want help with your packing?"
Unless thats just people wanting extra clubcard points, because your get extra if you reuse bags and 3 extra points if you reuse a Bag for Life. |

Re: Fags & Booze Up
Imagine the travesty of having to PAY for carrier bags, what is the world coming to?
You have to pay a penny a big in the Spar on campus here, and a lot of people seem to use the material bags you can buy. I always forget mine when I go shopping though and have to buy another one :p I don't understand alcohol increases and stuff like that, but those teeny increases aren't going to kill me so I think i'll be fine. And I don't smoke. I slept through the budget :D best sleep i've had in ages |

My carrier bags live in the veg rack then use them in the bin upstairs or for gathering rubbish out of the garden. Veg peelings go in my biodegradeable bin bags for the compost bin. Have got a few of those bags for life - mainly the m&s ones. The one i use most though is the radio lancs one seeing as i can chuck it over my shoulder instead of having to carry it leaves the hands free for other things then.

Why O' why do you put up with this crap? I have moved from the drug infested town which I once called home to a drug infested but controlled town in Spain. I can buy 1 litre of rum @ 10.95 euros I can buy 400 gms of roll up tobacco @ 1.85 euros. I can buy 5 litres of wine from a local bodega @ 5 euros. I am safe and secure in my little habitat @ 100 GBP a week. (2 beds + Trimmings) I can get English speaking programs Sky and BBC on my TV. The petrol here is 1.15 euros a litre. Broadband is no problem. Weather............Great. I get my pittance of a pension from the UK which I have got to be greatful for (laugh:tongueout) If I had not a pot to p**s in I would be at hells door. You can complain about councils and you can pontificate about who should be in power...............can you make a few bob.............difficult. Go for it................Lets see what you think |

Re: Fags & Booze Up
If this thread is solely on booze fags and placky bags I'm sure the mods will move this post, but on the budget, I am surprised that no one has made mentioned of the people claiming long term incapacity benefit. We all know tha there are people claiming this benefit that are swinging it, to say the least. But when a blanket statement is made lumping everybody together, it makes me less than pleased. The fact is, that the people doing these assessments usually don't have any medical knowledge. There are people who are unable to work because of very severe health problems, I know I'm one, and I know not the only one on here either. Over the years I have been to more than my fair share of medical assessments and failed with flying colours, in fact many years ago, I was refered to a DHSS doctor and his words were very chiling to me, he said "Why do they keep sending you to see people like me, they are wasting your time, my time, and their money, your complaint is never going to get better it is only going to get worse, much worse" I was 35 at the time, and whats more he was right. So how this government think I, and people like me, can make a remarkable recovery, is beyond me entirely, but if I have to attend for an assessment I will, the only thing is they will have to provide an escort to carry the oxygen machine which I am now pluged into 16 hours a day, or I'm afraid the games a bogey:confused:

No argument cashy but he is quoting far below th eprices I said. 1.85 euros is what £1.50 for 40g? as for wine, 60p/litre is cheaper than teh vinegar for his chips.
I agree that its crazy the prices over here but they aren't what he claimed. |

GV is 4.30 Euros for 50g.....wine of the superior variety (Rioja) is between 2.05 Euros and 4.95 for Reserva.....You can buy wine in the local bodagas at 95C a litre......drinkable but strong. I pay 10.95 Euros for a litre of Captain Morgan Rum. I pay 4.95 Euros for 4 X 2 Litres of diet coke. Petrol is 1.14 Euros a litre. The conversion rate for the euro against the pound is 1.26 and falling. The temperature here today was 23 degrees.....bit chiily in the slight wind but!!!!! I may be wrong but I think the price of petrol includes the road tax.Rum sounds pricey.

I'm certainly not in Politics to conserve for myself, I am getting involved because everyone should have the chances in life I have had so far, I am there because pragmatic common sense approaches to policy are a good way to make policy, not looking at a book of ideology. I am there because I believe we have the right to liberty, this should be respected by the state, for it exists because of us and not the other way around. It annoys me when the Conservatives get mis-represented in this way. If they were the party of aristocrats 200 years ago then so what? because today is today, Conservative is only a party name, what matters is what the candidates believe, whether the policies are good and whether they can make a real difference to the lives of the electorate. I honestly think the people I have spoken to are good people, I honestly believe they mean what they say, they're genuine and really do care about fixing the way certain segments of society are heading. - Andrew |
