Looking for a Nice place to Eat in the Accy area

I’m looking for a local restaurant or Pub that does good quality food any time form lunch time to mid afternoon, not town centre. Anything English preferably using locally grown produce, with a good live ale….

You must be the only person I know who has said this about The Willows.

The comments I received from people concerning the willows have not been good. I was told the service was slow, the food cold and not particularly that nice.

Not being one to listen to gossip I decided to make a visit. I wish I had not bothered. The comments were correct. That is one place I will never set foot in again.

I found Old Mother Red Cap a good choice, not exactly in
Accy but worth the 5 minute drive.

If you dare venture to then Willows please let us know how you got on.

Yes it is a Harvester now. I've been and thought it was good. Better than when it was on of those dreadful Brewer's Fayres.

Well Cashy I trust your sense of taste so where would you go, given a choice. I'll have a couple of hours at hand.

A lot of people say the willows is crap. When I went last month to a charity event, I thought the price was, well , over priced if the food is as bad as what people say. So i settled for the Britannia instead :D

I'll second that. I've never heard anyone complain about the Duckworth Hall. My mum and Dad were there last Sunday and they had a lovely meal.

First time I went it was really good. Perhaps last time the chef was off or something. All it takes is one bad meal, and word spreads that it's rubbish, which might not be the case.

It changed hands last year, but the grub is still homemade, and very good, and the service is friendly.

Plus, there's plenty of parking, and it's even a pretty building, with a covered smoking area at the back, overlooking the fields.

As that's how it's pronounced locally.:D

Well, that was lovely, if people wish to make a note of it. Mostly English Food, nicely presented, fresh cooked vegetables, etc., and, I think, £6.99 (didn't pay) for choice of 2 courses. Starters/main or main/dessert. Well-stocked bar .. tried to make a note of the beers, specially for Doug, but not sure if John Smiths, Castlemaine and Boddies (think) fits the bill ? Used to be The Lidget (sp) across from the cemetery.

Pleasant surroundings and excellent staff .. will definitely go again.

Opening times:-

Tuesday >> Saturday 11 a.m. - 3. p.m and 6. p.m.-11 p.m.
Sunday all day 12 noon -8 p.m. (traditional roast available)

Lunch and Evening .. Blackboard Specials but full a la carte menu too.

Weddings, funerals, parties for up to 70 people.

Anything else ... LOL .. oh yes:-

Know quite a few people who has been to the Harwood, and it certainly gets good reviews.

Did you find anywhere Doug? If so where and was it good?

I like The Walton Arms in Altham.

I've only been there in the evening, but I'm sure they do lunches too. The food's good and the service is really friendly.

They also have a web-site, so you can check out the menu before you go.:hehetable

Believe the Walton Arms has changed hands and the food has gone downhill. Not been myself but daughter went a few weeks ago, she was really looking forward to it and was very dissappointed.

Sadly, I have to report that on my last visit to the Walton Arms in July this year, the quality food and the friendly service had left the building, along with the previous owners.

There's a place on that road between the Dog and the Brittania pub going out of Ossy, opposite the Cricket ground that does good food. Can't remember it's name. It's a bit of a small place but the Sunday lunches are crackin'. Come to think of it I don't think the Brittania is that bad but like everyone else on here the Willows, I think, is shocking!

Have you tried places like Checco's at Great Harwood? La Varanda on the way into Haslingden is good. Went to Hordens (Horden Vale Hotel off Grane Road Haslingden) recently. That was top class. Very nice. ...Or alternatively carry along the Grane to the £3.50 Carvery overlooking the reservoir.

The pub frames is describing is The White Bull

We had lunch in The Swan on Sunday. Good quality basic fayre. mick was very attentive and as the pub was quiet put CBeeBies on the TV to keep Siobhan happy.

£7 for two meals as well and well worth the money.

Would also make a nice change for an Accyweb meet IMHO

I went to Lilly Mae's for lunch. Its just off the roundabout, under the viaduct, the turning after Union Street (B&M's). Was about £5 for lasagna though most meals come with a drink worth up to £1.50, including some alcoholic beverages.

Nice setting inside and the food was good.

usual discrimination then, nice people lose out because the manager can't/won;t manage the scrotes. When I ran pubs, any adults in charge of children on site that got 'merry' were asked to leave, likewise those who weren't ensuring the kids behaved. Did I lose trade? nope, teh decent people were usually grateful for them being kicked out and came back more often
