Well it was down to three. TonyD, JanetS and Sandra Heyes who quit the 2 day selection in Manchester as I understand it. There was talk of an outsider being imposed a while back. PB bragged recently the candidate wasn't stood far from him. He was with TonyD. So I am surprised Neil says she's female. Tony D was selected as Mayor to shoe him into the public mind and the Parliamentary selection.

However TonyD has been damaged by the corrupt mayor banners and there was an extraordinary meeting over this. One leading Tory said "If you believe that you'll believe anything".

Tory Central Office had all marginals down for early selection and A List candidates. This was in case Gordon called an early election. Tory Central office is now down to selecting difficult/unwinnable seats. Hyndburn Tory Parliamentary selection has slipped and slipped so make what you will. When you watch the national agenda, Hyndburn doesn't feature.

I think the Rishton by-election which national Tories threw a lot of resources at marked Hyndburn down as difficult to win and hence the selection process is as it has been, confused, messy, two years overdue.

PS I can assure readers I went no where near PB's office to get this info!

It just seems a total cock up. Conservative Associations were told to be ready and select. If Gordon HAD gone in October, The Tories would have had 4 weeks to select and promote a candidate. (Think about printing??) Why was Tory HQ so lax on Hyndburn Cons. Ass.?

I think Hyndburn Cons. Ass. is essentially PB on his own (not a jibe just an oft repeated observation by everyone) and he's struggling with a bunch of poor councillors who by and large aren't there for the Council, but to keep the Labour Party out.

Are you saying, in a very subtle way, that you're glad 'Gordon' chickened out of the October election?

I remember the song " hey hey were the monkies"

Read you had bad weather in the last week.

Climate change....that will cost you.

Bend down and look for fags under the counter (what a load of town halls)

VOTE LABOUR AND SEE THE WORLD.

As we used to say on Radio Shack "Come Back"

Actually Graham you make two points, firstly on Parlimamentry, I have said for a long time that Hyndburn would be very hard for the Tories to win at a general since the boundrey change for 1997 GE, with the addition of the two Haslingden Wards, having lived in Worsley Ward for 8 years from 78 to 86 I'm not daft enough to think that the two wards in question are awash with blues
secondly I done really think much of you continually slagging of Tory councillors for the only reason they are Tories, I would take great excepion to you classing my good friend (who was a friend a long long time before he entered politics) Brian Walmsley as a poor councillor, and I would say that when you decide to step down from political life, that you have done as much for the community as Brain, then you will have made a big contribution to the borough, taking into account the many years Brian gave up, to help not only the young people of Oswaldtwistle, but Lancashire in general before he even became politically involved. I find it very sad that a man like yourself who openly says that he wants to make a difference, can treat other like minded people with contempt just because they represent a different political outlook to your own. Over recent years politics has become a dirty game and for that I blame all main political parties, and that is why I am glad that I am no longer involved. In my time even though I was a big critic of the Labour Party, I also had great respect for many of their elected members, Jack Grime, Len Dickinson, Ken Curtis, Bill Pinder, spring readily to mind, but the new bread such as yourself, I'm sorry you just leave a rather nasty taste in the mouth, and as I said before I am glad I'm out of it and don't miss it one bit.
