United Utilities

I have been paying my water bill by annual direct debit for more years than I can remember.

For the past 2 years I have asked to convert to monthly direct debit, but it never happened - never got a response.

A few weeks ago I went on the United Utilities website and noticed that there is a facility for setting up DDs there , so I thought.....
'that is how they want it done then'.

I went on my banking site and cancelled their annual DD and completed their online form to set up monthly DDs.

Today I have recieved a revised water bill for 2008/9 on which-
they have retrospectively removed the £5 a year DD discount for the last 2 years and want their £10 back!!!!!!!

I now wait for a response to my 'shirty' response to that

What cheek

In my experience they are probably the worst company going when it comes to customer relations. They have a monopoly and know how to use it

Be very careful of any firm with UNITED in its title Margaret, they are usually not united at all especially where your mony is concerned

As a current employee of the firm can I just personally thank Margaret for her contribution to my Bonus in June and my pay rise :D:D:D:D

I must admit that is a poor do and extremely cheeky but maybe they will disregard it if you phone then.. albeit again!?.. A lot of the systems they use in the call centres are automatic too so this might not be down to human error.

I work for the Electricity Section and not in billing or I would gladly help you. I'm not sure which number you currently have but maybe you could try 0845 746 1100

Thanks for the number (and your sympathy)
I will wait for their response to my email first
It is cheaper than phoning , but will phone if they dont respond with some sense

I don't know I have never had a problem with them on the commercial side. They help me out by informing me our company had a little water leak - About 100,000 litres a day if I remember correctly. It turned out we had a 3/4" pipe open to drain for about a month :o

On the electric side they helped out with and underground HV cable fault. Ok they were not very pleased when several times I closed onto the fault causing some rather large power dips in Preston :D

I watch my pennies - I filter their water
I have explored the possibilty of a meter but since I am in a flat it is not likely to be possible.

There have been stirrings in the press lately showing up the injustice of a single person paying full whack when a meter can't be provided.
.... talk of a special tariff for us .... can live in hope

Re: United Utilities

there you go... send them a bill for the filter. lol

LOL - OH Em - I don't expect I would get any joy from that :D
they would send me analysis reports on how wholesome their water is
That is ....if they cared about their public image
