This relates to the licence fee I guess. They're planning on shutting down analogue transmission in late 2009 so I have researched my postcode and house number on: Freeview - Check Coverage

This is the response I get:
So anyone wanting to watch TV who for some reason can't get freeview (and I live in a residential area I'm not some rural farmer in the middle of nowhere) has to pay through their noses to get freeview from sky. £150 and you get less channels than normal Freeview as in no Dave, no E4 among others.

I'm not sure how it works for multiple TV's but I wouldn't be surprised if you have to pay £150 per box!

I dont understand why people don't just watch tv online. BBC iPlayer is great :D

Not everything is on BBC iPlayer, not all the other channels have online viewing, and the ones that do are fussy and won't let me watch it because I have a mac.

ITV and channel 4 do, which is enough to let me watch the popular programmes without having to pay for a tv licence. I only use the BBC one though as ITV is a bit awkward as it doesnt like Mozilla...

I think its right that Macs shouldn't be supported, they're a load of...

well you get the idea :p

As far as I have ever been aware you only need a license if you are streaming live channels, whereas BBC iPlayer is delayed by a particular amount of time.

We have a tv license though, I just don't contribute because I don't use the living room or the TV.

EDIT: Thanks for your concern though, but obviously I checked before I watch stuff :p I don't want to have a criminal record being a law student :p

TV licences are only for live TV margaret. You can watch shows on iPlayer etc without a licence because it isn't shown live.

I don't actually, I am not a big fan of BBC news, not even the website. I just read the news so I can be selective about what I hear about :p

We do have a license though so I wouldn't be breaking any laws if I did, I just don't pay anything towards it because I don't sit downstairs to watch the telly.

The licence doesn't apply if you have locks on your door however! Only applys to the living room if that's the case.

So I can't watch TV in the bathroom? I live in a house remember not university accomodation. A lot of people have locks on their bedroom doors in their homes.

As far as I have ever seen it, its a license per household.

And like I said, I don't watch live tv anyway so I don't know why I'm bothering arguing back about it :D

Sometimes, it gets quiet and lonely by myself all the time, so it's nice to get to use my voice every now and again.

Unfortunately you can't receive the Freeview channels in your area now, but when your region switches to digital you should be able to receive the most popular channels

I think BBC are bringing out Freesat later this year, which will be a one off connection fee of approx £85.00 for the set top box and aeriel. It will also be HD.
