Here We Go Again.

At 0100 on Sunday the 30th March 2008 we are all obliged to go through the ridiculous annual ritual of moving all clocks, watches and time pieces forward one hour. And then in October we have to put the time back one hour. Its called “Daylight Saving Time” or as we know it in the UK “British Summer Time”.

Why?

What good does it do?

It is daylight before 0700 and stays light until 1900 and as each day goes by it gets light earlier and stays light later. In other words from now on and for the next six months or so there are more daylight hours than there are dark hours.

What is the point?

Who benefits by this annual charade?

It is time to stop messing around with the clocks and either settle for GMT all year round or BST all year round.

It doesnt bother me:D
the only thing is trying to get the kids to sleep on a school night and they dont want to go to sleep because its still light!!

Well JB you see when I go out next Tuesday(god willing)it will be still light, I don't like the dark when I'm sober, but when I'm on the way home I don't give a monkeys:D:D

Re: Here We Go Again.

It works the complete opposite for me. Whereas everyone else will get and extra hour this week, I'll loose it because say its 7am, Harry will think its 8am!! So i'll be getting an hour less! :(

Apart from that I don't really mind. It makes you feel better that its actually light when I go into work.

No Lolly ? The clocks are going forward so we all lose an hour .. you may still get an hour less, 'cause Harry will react to the light which wakes you up anyway. Am I right ?.. LOL.

No I'm not about the morning bit .. eek.

This has been my first winter that I have rarely ventured out.
It has driven me round the twist.
I doubt that I would have any semblance of sanity left if it hadn't been for Accy Web.
Thank you all

Re: Here We Go Again.

We moved ours forward a few weeks ago ... doesn't seem to make much difference, so it's not a big issue. If you don't like it JB, you could move to the Province of Saskatchewan, land of the living skies, where they don't change the clocks.:D Saskatchewan is not a bad place, friendly folks, and lots of wide open spaces ... about two and a half times as big as England with a population of less than a million ... there are lots of real cowboys there and no shortage of Indians.:D

The farmers are the ones that benefit from having the extra daylight.

We don't get extra daylight by moving the clocks. Why mess with the clocks for the minority of farmers when they can just work during the day light, the time does not matter?

There isn't any extra daylight due to the clock change
It is due to the tilt of the earth creating seasons.

Farmers have problems ajusting their cows to new milking times

Re: Here We Go Again.

There's no shortage of farmers in Saskatchewan .... most of the people make their living directly or inderectly off the land. In fact, there are three wheat sheaves on the Provincial coat of arms.

It does my head in...i wish they would leave the clocks alone......and i don't quite care which they choose GMT/BST.....either will do just leave it at that. It takes my bodyclock 3 weeks to readjust itself.

This just goes to prove just how lacking in observation and full of pomposity and bluster good old jambutty happens to be. It may have escaped his notice but this is a biannual ritual, as we also perform it in October. I'm glad I wasn't in the Royal Navy when he was on watch.:D:D

Go on report this one Jambutty, you old mard arse.

It is obvious that your reading skills leave a lot to be desired not to mention your memory.

I do believe that I wrote “And then in October we have to put the time back one hour.” in the opening post.

I guess that shoots your childish attempt to be clever down in flames.

Aah. Forgive me for being so thick. And here's me thinking something occurring twice a year was a biannual event. Thanks for clarifying that something which happens twice a year is an annual event.

In a sense, he is right. Putting the clock forward happens once ... putting it back happens once ... so we have two annual events.

Does this get me in the club:confused::D:D

Can't agree with that, we should keep BST all year. We did it one year (1971/72?) and I thought it was great. Yes it was dark in the mornings (we lived in North Yorkshire so it was probably even darker there than down here) but at least the children came home from school in daylight.

I don't like Winter afternoons when it's dark by 4 p.m. I get SAD. :(

Not here it doesn't, matey. Where I live it means an inch of snow, half melted then frozen solid in lumps, freezing cold winds blowing rain and sleet into your face, chilblains, colds and 'flu. :(

Now I know why I left:D When the weather is crappy like that, stay inside, hit the couch, pick up the remote, phone out for a pizza, grab a cold one from the fridge and do some positive hibernation:rolleyes: And while you have the remote in your hand, do some channel surfing ... maybe you will find a hockey game to watch:alc:

Good one West Ender .. suppose we are never prepared are we.

Just noticed today the leaves sprouting on the bushes/trees ... great ...:mosher:

We are getting a lot of signs of spring too ... and I don't just mean the clocks going ahead .... we are not at the leaf sprouting stage just yet, but most of the snow is gone; thank god we had a slow melt with no major flooding in the low lying areas. Some of our country roads can turn into rivers at this time of year ... (particularly the Creekford Road ... go figure) .... But there are big vees of Canada honkers heading north or settling in by the open water on the lake ... the ducks are back and there are more raccoons and skunk wandering around the town after dark.:dancedog:
