i do hope they do a follow up to that programme, or will they do the usual thing and just write it off and forget about it, hope it all goes away? nothing would surprise me |

From what they said on the programme thats exactly what they did 10 years ago. The politicians, police and socail workers will do naff all because for one it becomes a racial issue and for another it's not exactly going to be something they can set high targets for like speeding, and more importantly to them targets they can be measured by. Until it happens to a high profile figures daughter then it will get brushed under the carpet. |
Re: Panorama
Just reading in tonights Telegraph that four men were arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning and charged with abducting a fifteen year old girl. Glad to see the police trying to do something about it.

yeah thats all good and well Bernie, but did it need to come down to someone getting abducted? surely they should have had their eye on what was going on right from the start (no offence intended) but you know what i mean x |

Re: Panorama
Unfortunately I don't get to see "Panorama" ... but I did find it interesting to read the links and it seems that you guys have a major problem, and that law enforcement is responding way too tentatively because of something I find difficult to understand ... this super sensitivity to race. Our local police routinely do racial profiling when anyone is arrested their race is noted, and the stats are made available to city council and, thro' that body, to the general public. The Greater Toronto Area has a problem with violent black gangs, not on the level of major US cities, but the problem is there. No one in the Toronto and area police forces has any problem with saying "gangs of blacks" for fear of offending the black community, or "gangs of Chinese youths".
At a higher level, the Federal Govt. is tightening up immigration rules, and some of these new regualtions, are what some would call discriminatory, and would probably cause a big stink in the UK. But most Canadians want to keep Canada the way it is, and if that takes a little insensitivity on the part of governments ... (the govt of Quebec is becoming particularly tough, esp. on muslims who wish to live in la belle Province) ... so be it. |
