Just got a shock there some idiot has just run their van into my garden wall. They very nicely left it embedded there and ran off. The police are here dealing with it now.

That was one of my concerns but the police say he will have to pay for the damage. Not holding my breath though probably not insured or insurance invalid through drink.

Well looking like a long night here the police are taking statements, so it seems like the van driver is denying he was driving. Only guessing by the way but we pointed them in the direction he went and now they want to know what he looked like and what he was wearing!!

My goodness just finished the statements and fel like I have done something wrong. Seems that rather than whoever was driving proves he wasn't we must prove he was. I only saw him for about two seconds thank goodness the young ones can remember what he looked like and was wearing.

Happened to me once only the car came through the front window as well then about a year later someone blew my front and vestibule door off.only good thing was I got it all paid for by my insurance £2000 in all.

Got told today that the lad was inebriated. Also got my daughter worrying because my grandaughter made a statement and person involved lives on next street to them. He is of the rough and ready sort and she is frightened that there may be come backs. As if it isn't bad enough I am now worried for them. Once again the perpetrator seems to have the upper hand.

So how will you go on about claiming for the wall, will you have to claim on your house insurance? I hope that you don't have to pay too much of an excess on your policy. Have the police informed you of the name and address of the driver?

Think I can claim off the Victim Support, my sister claimed when her car was run into. I have been told his name.

Just been informed that the bloke who did this has been sentenced to 160 days. It really annoys me that people who have been banned from driving still insist on getting behind the wheel especially with a skinful. As a rule people are generally walking past mine on their way home from a night out. Maybe he should be thankful that it was raining or he could have hit and maybe killed somebody.

No help with repair costs, the only route to go down on that score is a civil case. Was more or less told not to waste my time and money so looks like my house insurance might be a victim as well.

Don't hold your breathe Bernie, but shouldn't you be able to claim of the person's car insurance who hit your wall, that is if he was insured, sorry if this has been mentioned earlier in this thread but I'm not back reading at this time in a morning, I'm still sleepwalking;)

Bloody marvelous Bernie init, no doubt the powers that be will give the guy a pat on the head and give him a sugar lump, if it hasn't already been done, the git should be made to pay for this even if it takes 10 years, at least you'd get the satisfaction, make him pay the insurance company not you, the'll make sure they get the money. Payment for damages should be on pain of prison for default, its time these irresponcible people were made accountable for their actions:(

probably need Blazey to answer this .......but can't you put a claim in when he appears in court for a compensation order to be issued , along with any fines or other punishment , even if a private debt collector/bailiff charges 20% , you get something
