Argentina lays new claim to Falklands

British forces being tied down as they are in Iraq and Afghanistan what do you think the British Govt. would/could do if Argentina were to use force to press its re-newed claims for the Falklands.
My thinking on the subject is that the US navy would come to the rescue as part of a closed door/secret deal between Blair/Brown and Bush made as a condition of British forces staying in Iraq and Afghanistan .I'm also thinking that the recent new finds of oil deposits have a part in the story

You can bet your sweet life that oil has a huge bearing on this latest claim but I doubt if the Argentineans have the stomach for another conflict.

In any case has no one considered what the Falklanders want?

Actually, that's a good point. Has anyone asked them what they want? Have there been any polls taken.

From what I remember the people made it quite clear during the last time, they wish to remain British, why else would they have been disruptive during the occupation, even before a task force was sent?

I just hope it escalates enough, (vain hope), for our troops to be withdrawn from the wastelands they are occupying now to become a defensive force for someone that wants to be defended against oppression.

I would be much easier to just nuke Argentina.

We might as well use a couple of nuke's, we paid for them after all.

The six million population of those islands regard themselves as British.

Besides the sheep, the 2,913 people also see themselves as Brits.:D

If Britain has to send more troops to the Falklands, it would be best to keep the Scots out of there .... with all those sheep around:eek::eek::eek::D

Well, you might as well have the lads back from Basra. They've been holed up at their base there for quite a while and perhaps would appreciate a change of scene. Besides, the Iraqi army has been kicking the you know what out of al Sadr's thugs down there. On Tuesday of this week the Iraqis entered the ports of Khour al-Zubair and Umm Qasr in western Basra to provide protection and enhance security control there. They have also had great success, (with minimal U.S. assistance), in securing Hillah, Najaf, Karbala, Diwaniyah, Amarah and Al Kut.
