Thats what I was thinking, then I started wondering if I had the right shop in mind

emzy 15-04-2008 19:06

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

That wont leave many places in accy to buy childrens clothes if we lose this store

BERNADETTE 15-04-2008 19:08

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

Another one bites the dust, don't know about making Arndale bigger think they need to try and fill shops that are there.

emzy 15-04-2008 19:09

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

Exactly Bernadette, IF ethels closes thatll then be 5 units in the arndale empty

Thats happened at a couple of the places i have worked at, it seems that the staff are always the last to know and it shouldnt be that way

I bought the boys thomas dressing gowns from there today, cant say i buy a lot from there but they do have some nice stuff in from time to time

Yolanda25 15-04-2008 19:32

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

You not worried yolanda???? If its made it to the news like this then obviously the situation is quite serious

Yolanda25 15-04-2008 19:44

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

emzy im not worried cuz i dont know nothing yet so i will find out tomorrow

emzy 15-04-2008 19:46

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

You not read what BBC have reported?? Might be worthwhile and then at least you can question it if they tell you different at work tomorrow. There are times where a company doesnt tell the workers until they have too, and this time is generally when it reaches the media in one way or another

I hope you are right Yol, but it doesn't usually work that way, my branch of Music Zone made a hefty profit and still got closed. It's the company as a whole that counts.

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

Oh nuts, I get nearly all Em's clothes from there as its good quality stuff for babies. I really hope they don't shut it coz it'll leave my with a grand choice of Asda, Matalan and god forbid Adams.

BERNADETTE 15-04-2008 20:10

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

The baby clothes are really lovely.

onlyme 15-04-2008 20:11

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

I dont think the how the individual shops do matters. If the Company as whole is losing money, not paying suppliers etc, then its worrying news

Hope its good news for you tomorrow Yolanda, hopefully there may be interest from other companies to buy the company out

Yolanda25 16-04-2008 06:21

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

at the moment is 30 shops closing out of 300 and this shops that are closing are the ones that are on minus profits, we are always on a plus thats why i wasnt worried, as soon as i find out whats happening i will text emamum to write it on here.

Ethel Austin Shopworkers Face Uncertain Future (from This Is Lancashire)

this afternoon administrators said that 33 stores would be closing.

East Lancashire stores in Northgate, Blackburn, Market Street, Darwen, the Pendle Rise centre in Nelson, Market Street, Colne, and Market Street, Chorley, were not affected

it doesnt say accy will be saved though, hope Yolanda can tell us more

JJB is closing some of their shops as well.

Sports chain JJB to close 72 stores - MSN News UK - news & weather

Never mind heading for a slump, think we're in it.

Sara 16-04-2008 18:27

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

OOPS. Didn't noticed the JJB story had already been covered.

Never mind heading for a slump, think we're in it.

"The moves were announced as JJB said adjusted profits fell 28% to £33.8 million in the year to January 27.
A £25 million hit relating to the cost of closing the stores meant bottom-line profits fell 72% to £10.8 million."

Shame for the shareholders, but an even bigger shame for the people that will loose their jobs.

Have we not a JJB in Accrington centre, will that be another closure?? who knows

Apparently most closures will be where there is a Sports Direct shop close by or in towns where there are multiple stores.

The Accy one will probably be able to carry on being rubbish :)

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

From what i can gather JJB wouldn't make employer of the year.

JJB Sports workers fight “first world sweatshop" | Workers' Liberty

mind you if your staff aren't on your side how do you continue your success????

flashy 17-04-2008 21:59

Re: Ethel Austins gone into administration

was in JJB today in Accy and i asked one of the lads behind the counter about this and he said, they are doing away with the small shops so the one in Accy is safe as are the ones in Blackburn apparently

Accrington is a large shop ? Maybe the member of staff concerned needs to visit a few other JJB's before he realises it's probably one of the smallest stores :D
