|
Re: dropped in street
Yes I would, I know what its like to loose a large sum of money therefore I would hand it in
|
Re: dropped in street
would i hand it in?......NO!!!.....:D
|
Re: dropped in street
I lost £600 just before christmas a few years ago and I know how it felt then, i was absolutely gutted (my own stupid fault for carrying money around like that but it was to pay off what I owed on my car)
|
Re: dropped in street
Yes i would hand it in. If after handing it in and its not claimed then it becomes yours anyway. I think its 3 months after.
|
Re: dropped in street
I would hand it in I know it isn't my money
|
Re: dropped in street
My mum found a wallet with a few hundred pounds in it and handed it in to Sittingbourne police station and was told if no-one claimed it in a certain amount of time she was entitled to keep it......it wasn't claimed and all she got was the wallet.
my step father had a go at her and said she should have kept it. If it was in a wallet i would put a sign up saying 'wallet found' with my phone number and if someone rang id ask for a description,if the description was correct and the contents matched then i would give it back. If it was in a plastic bag and nothing else then i would probably keep it. BTW this business man-do we know he dropped this money or do we not? |
Re: dropped in street
Yes definitely.......£1000 is a lot of money to lose. My conscience would not let me keep it.
|
Re: dropped in street
If the money was in a wallett I'd definately hand it in, but in a carrier bag, dont know may be tempted to keep it.
|
Re: dropped in street
Sorry but if somebody drops a grand in my lap then i'm keeping it.
Sorry if that sounds greedy or lacking in morals but at least i'm honest.:p |
Re: dropped in street
Has anybody else besides Emzy ever lost a large amount of money? I am sure if it were to happen to you your opinions on keeping it would change.
|
Re: dropped in street
I would be tempted to keep it, but I don't think my conscience would let me.

Re: dropped in street
In a plastic bag and dropped by a businessman who probably screwed some poor bastard in order to get it ... sure I would keep it, even tho' I don't really need it.:dancedog:
|
Re: dropped in street
I would never keep it, It is someone elses money and they earned it so they should get it back!
|
Re: dropped in street
I couldn't possibly keep it.
I'm too honest, I'd have to hand it in. |

Re: dropped in street
I wouldnt keep it.
my friend once handed in a wallet to the police station in blackburn he didnt even open it, he got a call from the police saying that the contents of the wallet were missing, so before you see a wallet/purse or whatever on the floor i would have someone witness that you hav'nt opened it before handing it into the police or you too may get accused of theft |

This is just a hypothesis then ? You would have either had to see him drop it .. in which case had the opportunity to call him back, or he had lots of other items in the 'carrier bag' ... just suggesting he was a business man ? Doubt whether this would ever happen ... a business man would surely have put this amount of cash in his brief case. |
Re: dropped in street
I wouldnt hand it into the police
What I would do is( as someone already said ) Avertise it. If someone has lost a large amount of money the first thing for them to do is trace thier steps Therefor I would tell local shops etc that I have found it and leave contact details.. My son lost his wallet last year . We went to the bookies to put a bet on the National and he left it on the side in the bookie. Hell I though that was def the last he had seen of iot . But nope someone had handed it in. I were gobsmacked but relieved for him.. |
Re: dropped in street
I found £15 in asda when i was a kid and we handed it in and i got it back because no one claimed it. I felt so rich having £15 in my pocket. £10 went into the bank and i spent a £5!!!!
Anyway anyone finding a grand in a plastic bag would be better off taking it to the police station - it could be fake!!! Imagine trying to spend it in a shop and finding out it was fake ... Your honour i found the money in a plastic bag - well why didnt you take it to the police station and report that you had found it? |

Re: dropped in street
No its theft you would prob go to jail 4 it
A person shall be guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it. |
Re: dropped in street
Wonder if those that said they would keep the money would have felt the same if they knew belonged to a drug dealer ....

I have been privileged in my lifetime to know(and trust) some honest business folk......folk who have been generous with their donations to local causes.....things that would brighten the lives of those who live in our little town. justifying keeping money found in these circumstances is just a salve to a conscience. How do you know this business person is not struggling to make ends meet....maybe just a thousand quid from going under? You don't! No I would not keep money found in such a situation, for the reasons I have outlined. |

Re: dropped in street
once my mother found a hand bag on the bus she had a look in to see if there was a address in. there was not but there was about two hundred pound in it, she gave it the driver of the bus he got her name and number.
a week later they rang her to say the hand bag had been claimed but no one rang or said thank you to her for handing it in. she said that's the last time i hand anything in.my mum is no longer with us but i have never for got that |

Re: dropped in street
I would not expect to be rewarded either......but I would like to know that the property had reached its rightful owner...if the owner didn't have the courtesy to ring and say thanks then it doesn't lessen the pleasure of knowing that owner got their property back.

Re: dropped in street
Ah, just read in the Observer what Pam is on about:-
'A plastic money bag containg £1,000 was dropped in Tremellen Street, Accrington, by an Accrington businessman. The man believes the bundle of cash dropped out of a folder he was carrying as he was walking along the street at around 3.30 p.m on Tuesday. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact PC Mick Dewhurst at Accrington Police Station on 353749' Looks like someone may have pocketed it ! Ain't that near you Cashy ? ... :D Only joking. |
Re: dropped in street
