Prisoners ignore chances to escape because they would rather languish in their cushy jails.


Lags like druggie Pete Doherty,are treated to breakfast in bed, Sky TV and even cash bonuses for good behaviour.


And drugs are even cheaper than on the outside, a wardens’ leader has revealed.


At one lockup in Yorkshire, drug dealers and hookers regularly break IN by leaning ladders up against prison walls.


But none of the cons take the chance to climb out because they have got it so easy, says Glyn Travis, assistant general secretary of the Prison Officers’ Association.


He claims Britain’s jails are close to anarchy and staff morale is at rock-bottom because of under-funding.

He said: “We’re trying to manage a system that is snowballing out of control.


“The drug problem within prisons is massive. What prison officers find is only the tip of the iceberg. The quantity of drugs in our prisons today is vast. Prison staff are doing everything they can – but drugs in prisons are now actually cheaper than on the outside.” He told Talksport radio: “There’s a classic case in Yorkshire where members of the public were climbing over prison walls to take drugs inside.


“They put up ladders to climb over the walls, but prisoners were so comfortable inside that none of them tried to climb out.


“There’s something wrong when people are breaking into prisons to bring in drugs and prostitutes, but the prisoners are quite happy to stay inside.”

No doubt some dogooder will come on and tell us they deserve a few luxuries because they don't have any freedom :mad:

Thats the trouble, there are to many dogooders in this country dave, the bleping heart liberals who live in ivory towers and don't live in the real world :eek:

As far as im concerned being in prison means being shut away from your family and friends, losing your freedom. They shouldnt get sky tv or any other benefits. There are people who dont have sky or virgin etc on the outside so why should prisoners who are there to be punished have it. In fact what they should have is a cell with a bed, a locker or something to put their clothes in, a chair, a table, toilet, a bible/koran all provided. They should have access to a library for books for loan, a communal tv - with just bbc1, bbc2, itv, channel 4 and channel 5. They should have to work for a living inside the prison, say half of them do college work in the morning and then work in the afternoon, the other half work in the morning and college in the afternoon. If anyone says thats going against their human rights what about their victims human rights? They violated their victims human rights so they should have to pay. Once you go to prison then you forfeit the right to have sky tv, etc.

Maybe we should round up all the pensioners and put them in these prisons.......three square meals a day, a roof over their heads, no bills to pay Tv to watch, free phonecalls to keep in touch with their families......I'm sure it would be like being in a holiday camp.
As for the prisoners........ we should install them in the pensioners homes and give them a pittance to live on, make them pay their own bills for food, lighting and heating. Who knows, this may act as a deterrent.:)

I agree with you whole heartedly shillelagh.

A person sent to prison should lose all human rights and only retain humane rights. A prisoner should be punished for one third of the prison term by making him work for 8 hours a day 6 days a week, rehabilitated for the second third and then paroled for the final third.

Prisoners today get treated better than service personnel and they don’t have people chucking bombs and missiles at them.

I'm a little confused ... which is quite normal ... but are these all prisons that have this problem? I just assumed that England like Canada has levels of prison. Like the real serious criminals go to maximum security joints and the middle of the pack guys go to medium security, and the more or less harmless go to minimum, known here as Club Fed. So are we talking all prisons or just those for offenders who don't pose a major threat to the public? :confused: Just curious.

That is awful ! Its a winder that there is any justice in this country. Soon it'll be like some parts of America where you will live longer on death row than out on the streets !
