car park next to pet w/house

Does anyone know why the carpark was being dug up this morning? I went past a couple of times and a few people were watching and then the digger seemed to stop and go??????

Have they finally started to build the church thats being built on that piece of land?

Gayle 26-04-2008 14:05

Re: car park next to pet w/house

Technically it's not a car park, it's only been used as one because it's a spare piece of land. It looks like the church has raised enough money and might be starting the building work on it.

There is another thread about this on here somewhere.

Could anyone possibly explain the logic behind this comment?

What is there that is confusing you? It's a straight forward sentence - have I used words that are a bit too long. I'll try again with some shorter words.

It's not a car park. It's land owned by a church. People have been parking on it. They can't anymore because the church is going to built.

Which technically means its not spare land. Which is probably where the confusion came from.

Technically it has NEVER been a car park, it has belonged to the church, they just haven't stopped cars from parking on it before. That's why I used the word 'technically' - because it has been used as a car park but technically hasn't actually been one.

blazey 26-04-2008 14:21

Re: car park next to pet w/house

I live in Ossy too when I'm not at uni.

Technically it was never spare land either if it was owned by developers. I think that is why Tealeaf questioned your logic gayle.

No more car sales and untaxed vehicles on there either then

Re: car park next to pet w/house

So it has a sign saying it is a car park, it looks like a car park and people park their cars on there, but technically it is not a car park?

I seem to recall a sign the last time I stood at the bus stop there. That was 2 weeks ago. Maybe my memory is deceiving me.

Yep, I think so - it's not a car park.

Oh dear. So what is the title of this thread?

Gayle 26-04-2008 14:40

Re: car park next to pet w/house

What I was attempting to say - probably not clearly enough - was that it's not a case of someone digging up a car park, even though that's what it's been used for. It's actually a case of someone not stopping people from parking there cars there whilst they wait until they have enough money to build the church.

Tealeaf 26-04-2008 14:51

Re: car park next to pet w/house

I think what you are trying to say, Gayle, is that the land was never actually designated a car park by the local authority and it is unlikely to be marked as a car park on any maps of the area. However, insofar as the land has not been tarmaced over and tarted up does not render it's name any different from its usage; if it is used as a car park, then that is what it is.

This diatribe is sooo funny. Tealeaf on the wind-up again

Look at Planning Application 11/7/0686 Steveo.

Of course, the decision hasn't been posted as yet, but why does that not surprise me !

Suprisingly all those cars weren't from the garage in John St, they were from a firm in Liverpool.

Yes, work has eventually begun on the church this week.

Untaxed vehicles shouldnt be on there anyway. Regardless of anything else untaxed vehicles should be stored on private land any car on public land are liable to be fined and/or confiscated. End of rant.

Now this is where it gets technical, the land was private land but the landowner let it be used as a car park, now can an untaxed car be parked on there or not?

True, the streets round there are now much busier.

Luckily bread has to be baked early, so my nearest and dearest still get a parking space.:D

Im not 100% sure on that. But i think by allowing it to be used as a car park that in some way stops it from being classed as private land, so untaxed vehicles should be removed. Shame there are never any traffic wardens in ossy, always too busy walking round accy town centre i presume.

Not seen them up close and personal myself, but was told the for sale signs had a Liverpool number on if you wanted to buy them.

Re: car park next to pet w/house

A lot of the retail premises in Oswaldtwistle belong to a company based in Liverpool. I didn't realise before but a lot of the shops are rented and they're all owned by the same company. I've no idea when or why a company in Liverpool started buying out a lot of the shops.

That sign disappeared ages ago. All there is now is an A4 sheet of paper stuck to a lamppost. Was going to read it this morning but really couldnt be bothered.
