Doctors Receptionist
When you go to the dentist it is a fair question from the receptionist to ask you what is the problem....'I have got a hell of a toothache'
No problem with that. But if a doctors receptionist asks you 'can I give the doctor some idea of your problem'.............how do you respond? I need some Viagra..........I've got a spot on my arse....I think I need to come out......I think I've got rabies. or Mind your own bloody business.? |
Re: Doctors Receptionist
Just tell her you could show her if she likes;)
Failing that, whatever you tell her, make sure she goes red and you walk away with a grin:D |
Re: Doctors Receptionist
I find doctors receptionists pretty rude in most surgerys, its ither they dont like there jobs or you telling them all your problems, one or the other.

They probably just wanna see who has the strangest problem/complaint:rolleyes: But obviously is nothing to do with them, and you shouldn't be asked to air your ailment/illness/medication request in public I work in an off-licence and when I ask for ID, always joke about only asking to be shown photographic ID so we can laugh at their picture:D |
Re: Doctors Receptionist
Just tell them that it's patient confidentiality and leave it at that.
At the end of the day, whatever goes on between you and your Dr is confidential, and it should remain that way. |
Re: Doctors Receptionist
tell them you think you have SARS they will back right off then

Re: Doctors Receptionist
I guess the receptionists are just attempting to control the workload of the G.P. and most likely working under the instruction of the G.P or Practice Manager. If I was to bear that in mind then I would hope to stay calm and just politely decline to discuss the issue with anyone other than my G.P.
Luckily I have had no stroppy/nosey receptionists to deal with up to now, I can imagine it must be bloody annoying to say the least to have to deal with one. |
Re: Doctors Receptionist
Most of the receptionists at my doctors never ask me whats wrong with me. Mind you last one that did was a new one and i said why? Then the receptionist who's been there for as long as i can remember came over and said Dr ..... and i said yes she said urgent? No well next tuesday at 3.30 and dont forget this time Jen... :D
I know i keep harking back to when mum was alive in posts but i rang up once and they'd been told by the doc (i was there at the time) that just to book her in for a home visit - not to go thro the rigmarole of checking that its right for a home visit. Well one of em decided to put me thro it and i said i dont need to do this Dr ... has said he'll come out if hes needed. When she said everyone has to do this i said ok - as long as you do it now well mum was off on one that morning .... the nurse rang me back and said is this for you or for your partner i said no - well i need to speak to the person who is requesting the visit. I said im requesting the visit for my mother. Went through is she having heart pains, no is she breathing regularly etc and then she said - shes well enough to come to the surgery!!! I said im not bringing her up there she walks with a walking frame i have no car so it would have to be a bus to get up there and there is no chance she will make it there. She said she's not ill enough to have a home visit. Ok dont send the doc then - just one thing look on her records and you will see that Doc has said if i request a home visit that he will come out and see her. Oh yes i see that now why didnt you tell the receptionist that i said i did ... When doc came out he said i wouldnt have to go through all that again ... |

Re: Doctors Receptionist
When I lived in Hassy the doctor had an apointment system, If you wanted to see the doc you rang up to make one, if the receptionst said there was no free times for a few days I just said, well thats fine, I'll have an house call then, I'm ill now not three days time. Some how they always managed to push me in:rolleyes:

Re: Doctors Receptionist
Read this quickly before it gets deleted or shunted off into Over 18s or something.
The antidote to nosey receptionists An old man walked into the busy waiting room at the G P's surgery and asked the receptionist if he could see the doctor. "What's wrong with you?" she asked. "Why do you want to know?" said the old man. "I have to be able to tell the doctor," she said. "OK," said the old man. "There's something wrong with my d**k." "You can't say that," shrieked the horrified receptionist. "You should have said something less - rude - in front of all these people. Now go away and come back when you can be a bit better behaved." The old man went outside. Five minutes later he came back and, once more, confronted the receptionist. "Well?" she said. "What's the problem?" "There's something wrong with my ear," said the old man. The receptionist smirked, triumphantly. "And what's the matter with your ear?" she asked. "I can't pee out of it." ;) |

Re: Doctors Receptionist
Must admit, the receptionist dont always ask why I need to see a doctor unless I am pushing for an urgent / same day appointment. Generally if theres something wrong with the boys. Im lucky that they have always managed to fit me in but on one occasion they said that they couldnt so I said I was taking him to casualty, they soon found me an appointment

Re: Doctors Receptionist
I reported our receptionist to the doctor a few weeks back for doing exactl;y that. First she told me I couldnt have my presciption until id seen the doc again, I told her i didnt need to see the doc for at least 6 mnth but she insisted i did , so I had to make aan emergancy appointment for the following day:mad: by which time a queue had formed behind me and she started questioning my ailments for the prescription . I only wanted my HRT but she told me i could manage without them ..I said " no i cant" I was told i would always have to have them AND never to miss:mad:
I were furious and when i saw the doc the day after he agreed with me and said if she had read further down the screen she would have seen i wasnt lying. grrrrr but i almost ended up discussing my medical stuff infront of a whole damn surgery. She was given a warning and quite rightly so. She avoids me like the plague now if she can . |

twenty minutes later i was still waiting to see doc - i asked receptionist if they were behind she said no - give me your name - then told me she had put me as not attending - it was the same receptionist i had tolds i was using ladies i couldve cried - or laughed with hysteria |
Re: Doctors Receptionist
I'm currently trying to change my doctors as I'm unhappy with their sevice. If I ring up for an appointment I am usually told they are all gone and to ring at 8 the following morning, which I do, to be told they have no appointments left and to ring again in the morning. I've lost count of the amount of times I've ended up at accy vic minor injuries as it is now to get anti-biotics for a thoroat infection, to be sternly told you should ahve gone to your doctors for them. The last time I managed to get an appointment with my doctors It was a pointless exercise anyway, I went in on a friday with a strong suspicion about what was wrong with me (I get about 8 throat infections a year as I am prone to them and require immeadiate anti-biotics due to a heart condition) to be told I had a simple virus and to drink water and take co-codamol for the pain, by the monday morning I could not swallow anything including water, couldn't get an appointment so I went to minor injuries to be told I had tonsillitis!!!! Absolutly flipping unbelieveable!!!

NHS complaints If you feel agreaved then ask for a complaints form in the first instance from the receptionist (I think that might make then take notice of you) If no satisfaction then fill in the form and submit it, if you need help with the form contact the Citizens Advice. |
