Kids and Bedtime
Why is it when you send a child to bed they never go to sleep when they are told to?
Reece usually goes to bed at 8 and i let him watch tv till 9 (on school nights) i tell him to turn the tv off at 9, so could anyone possibly explain to me why he is still awake? He does this often, i take his tv off him and he starts messing about with his mobile, i take that off him and he gets up and goes downstairs to get 'something out of the fridge' NOW HE'S REARRANGING HIS BEDROOM :mad: if you lot in Accy hear a loud BANG in the next few minutes, dont worry about it, it'll be me banging my head against the brickwork he starts his s.a.t.s on Monday and i'm gonna make sure he'll be in bed for 7, no telly and no mobile, even if i have to strap him to the bed ;) (that was a joke by the way) |
Re: Kids and Bedtime

Re: Kids and Bedtime
My 2 are the same, but theres nothing for them to play with in their room  I put them to bed, then an hour later their still up and messing around

Re: Kids and Bedtime
The most annoying thing is that they then struggle to get up in the morning!

ohhhhhh yessss, my alarm goes off at 7.45am, he manages to stroll into my bedroom at around 8.15am then has only 30 minutes to get a bath, brush his teeth, get dressed and have his breakfast |
Re: Kids and Bedtime
Its summer now the nights are lighter he wont go to sleep because its not dark. Sis used to have a blind on the kids windows as well as curtains during the summer she'd pull them both to make sure its dark enough. Also he's 11 - when i was 11 i went to bed at 9 but read for an hour after going to bed. Maybe hes going to bed too soon as well flashy and that extra hour running around might tire him out a bit more.

Re: Kids and Bedtime
I was still sent to bed at about 8.30 when I was 9, 10, 11ish.

Re: Kids and Bedtime
I don't have a problem at bedtime, thank God.
Up to now my two have been very good at going to bed. They don't mess about and they don't complain. They go at 7.30pm on school nights and 8pm on weekends without a fuss. They have even been known to ask to go to bed if 8pm comes and I haven't made a move. Mine are younger than Reece though, they are 7 and 4. Maybe it will change as they get older. |

My daughter is 9, goes to bed at 8pm school nights, is only allowed tele fri and sat, if she wants to read a book on school nights then she gotta go to bed at 7-30
Both the kids are great at bedtime tho, never come down or ask for anything My son is 4 and he goes to bed at 7, he is asleep within 5 mins of him going to bed |

Re: Kids and Bedtime
Trust you Eric!!
My 2 go to bed at 7pm, more often than not they do go straight to sleep but they are only young yet. They have always been good at going to bed though. I am hoping that as they get older I can keep them in this same routine but I will just have to wait and see.............. |

i know what you mean Jen, i think after he has done his exams i'll let him go to bed a little later, unlike some parents around here i actually care about Reece's schooling and i want him to do well hence him going to bed so early, some of the kids around here stay up till all hours and the parents dont care about them or what they do at school |
Re: Kids and Bedtime
when i was 15 and my mum died i moved in with my dad in Loveclough (Rossendale) but still went to Moorhead because i was in my last year it was pointless me changing schools, i had to be in bed for 8.30pm, the reason behind this? i had to get up at 6.30am every morning to get the three buses to school, i actually fell asleep in one of my GCSE mocks cos i was so tired

Re: Kids and Bedtime
my son goes to bed at about 9 ish, but he does mess about, probably because its light outside:rolleyes:

Re: Kids and Bedtime
mine goes to bed at around half 8 or 9 everynite, he goes to sleep straight away, he is not interested on watching videos or playing with his toys, he sleeps in the afternoon as i got him to stick with the spanish siesta tradition lol, but he still goes to bed straight away, i hope it stays like that but i dont think it will

Re: Kids and Bedtime
As there are seven in this house of varying school ages (1 pre-school) bedtimes are not contested as such otherwise it would be chaos! The teenagers are generally about 9.30-10.00pm, nine/ten year olds 8.30-9.00pm with the youngest at 7.30 with a story. Anyone caught playing MP3's or with phones have them confiscated for a week - the teenagers especially don't like that :D
Only complaints we sometimes get are during holidays when they whinge on about not having school the next day. Don't mind on occasion but it is considered a treat. |
Re: Kids and Bedtime
Its advised that children need a set number of hours sleep such as
5yr old = 11 hours 7yr old = 10.5 9 yr old = 10 hours 11yr old = 9.5 hours 14 yr old = 9 hours This has been proven medically and i got the info from a doctor. However, individuals work differently. My daughter is 14 and gets up without fail at 6.15, always has. (She likes to be prepared for school) But she doesn't go to bed till 10.00-10.30. She's never tired and i'm not worried about the amount of sleep she's getting. Then there's the boy:rolleyes: He's 11 now and ive sent him to bed at 8.30 for about 3 years. Recently he's been having trouble sleeping and was subsequently tired in the morning. So, ive changed his bedtime routine- Bed is now at 9.30 BUT, no t.v after 9, no P.S after 8.30 and he goes up at 9.15 to do whatever. He's since been great, never moans, falls asleep quickly and is in a better mood in the morning. I think sleep is an important issue, as working with kids i know alot of them didnt get enough and like Flashy says some parents dont care what time the kids are in the house nevermind in bed. |
