Re: chips shops
Well, him on Whalley rd next to Oakleigh is doing fish and chips for £2-00 and they are Mmmm nice!

Re: chips shops
Who'd pay £4 for a fish?
That's before your chips, peas, gravy etc. That'll kill the fish and chips trade. You could go out for a meal in a restaurant instead at those prices......as long as you don't have fish I suppose. |

Re: chips shops
I suppose it doesn't help that our fishermen have to adhere to European fishing quotas, this by itself is pushing up the price of fish:(

Re: chips shops
I’m sorry to say but the fish and chips offered today are just tasteless compared to what we got in the forties and fifties. There is the odd chip shop that does produce a reasonable dish but in the main fish and chips is just an expensive, tasteless, stomach filler.

Re: chips shops
we whent to one and it was 80p for a spoon full of mussy peas. i did with out.

Re: chips shops
On the few occasions when I get fish and chips to take away, I always ask for a carton of peas. At least that way you get your full whack and it’s the same price. In fact if you order fish and chips twice, one carton of peas is enough for both meals.
The same goes for gravy. Rather than have them pour a bit of gravy over your pie and chips ask for a carton of gravy. |
Re: chips shops
you get more if you order everything seperate jambutty..... one of many jobs was working in a chip shop horrible job, went home stinking of chip fat ...

Re: chips shops
When we were kids we used to rush into a chip a few minutes before it was due to close and breathlessly ask, “Have you any chips left?”
When we got the reply, “Yes! Just a few.” We would rush out even faster shouting, “Well you shouldn’t have made so many.” |
Re: chips shops
i have worked in a kebab shop and a chippy and both times couldnt eat the food from there... when you are around it and smell like it and see so much of it you cant eat it......
shame that didnt work the same when i worked in a nightclub :D |

Re: chips shops
Cod n Chips to take away is already £4.60 at my local chippy (£3.50 for fish, £1.10 chips .. Another chippy charges £5.99 and I did see a sign outside a chipshop just down the road (Waterloo) that proudly boasted "fish n chips £8.99 eat in" !
