Life After People/Channel 4

Programme on telly tonight 9 p.m. Really looking forward to it. 'With the help CGI simulations, experts in engineering, ecology and biology, amongst others, explain what might happen in this apocalyptic situation' should the human race suddenly vanish from the face of the planet.

Know have had lots of fiction on this, but this sounds creepy and interesting.

Sounds good (just set reminder for it as I`m going to watch too). Probably be better for the planet, no greenhouse gases, no pollution etc....I expect they`ll say that in 1000 years the planet will have "healed" itself and nature will be ready to give another species a go as the dominant ones...My moneys on the cockroaches

But all the MP’s will be dead.

Just finished watching this fascinating programme.

So it looks like no matter what we humans do to the planet so that we won’t be able to live on it, the Earth will recover to await the next species to dominate and in the process eliminate all traces of Homo Sapien.

Thought it was wonderful Jambutty, the plant rules though.

Learnt so much about steel, concrete, wood and other elements we convert to our usage in that hour and half than all my life .. there again, not an Engineer, but was fascinating. Maintenance is the key factor eh ?

Never thought either about the fires that would dominate due to lightning strikes.

Loved the bit about Manhatten Island, which would revert once more to streams; and our pet cats that could eventually 'fly' due to living above ground level.

It was quite interesting. Though I do think stretching it to one hour and thirty five minutes was a bit excessive.

Once we'd been informed how long concrete and steel takes to disintegrate, and for Mother Nature to reclaim the man-made Earth, I found it a little repetitive, plus they kept re-showing the same film clips.

I think they did make one major mistake. Fido wouldn't have been lapping up water out of the defrosting freezer...he, and all the other pets, would have been feeding on the rotting corpses of their former master's bodies.:D

Trust you to be gruesome, the idea was that there would be no rotting corpses .. we would have all been 'Beamed up Scottie' and how they would survive when no longer there to feed them, or in the food chain .. :D

Saying that, I did like the programme.

Though personally I'd have made it slightly differently, keeping man in the equation, and imagining what will happen to the Earth when fossil fuels run out.

The same things would happen that they showed on the programme. We would eventually descend into darkness because there would be no power, and it would be interesting to ponder how long it would be before Mother Nature reclaimed homosapiens, and they once again became feral beasts, wandering the planet in order to survive.

Yes, the Marie Celeste thing they had going on, the coffee machine still percolating in the kitchen, and the lack of any bodies, didn't really do it for me.

Suppose was just a way of showing what Earth would be if we Homo's were not around. Although you right, we had been, so doesn't quite gell .. but good fun... specially the Chimpanzee chopping up those nuts (?) .. proper Gordon Ramsey he was .. maybe in time would learn to use the 'f' word :D

It was quite thought provoking to think there would be absolutely no record left of modern man at all, only what was already left by the ancient Egyptians, and the Chinese with their Great Wall.

All our paintings, literature, records etc., would be dust.

Well, they could afford to produce more sustainable stone then .. in our modern age have had to look at larger demand, as concrete, which breaks down from the corrosion of the metal wires in them which expands and cracks the concrete (see what I've learnt) The pyramids would eventually disappear after 10,000 years though.

That was amazing though about the books/film etc. You know the time capsules that have been buried ? ... what type of container are they in do you think ?
