Released at half time

It appears that the justice system are to start releasing prisoners halfway through their sentences, instead of the two thirds because of over crowding, the release of 500 will start next month. its not shorter sentences we need its bigger and better jails and sed out the message that crime doesn't pay, instead of the joke system we have at the moment:mad:

Re: Released at half time

The majority of prisoners are in for petty crimes anyway. Might as well just fine them instead of forking out to keep them in prison. I think prison should be exclusively for people who are a danger to the public, and those who commit massive crimes like fraud and stuff. I think I'd include benefit fraud in that too though, as fining probably isn't the best option for those who are already on benefits to survive :p

I don't think this is that bad of a proposal, could potentially sort the whole thing out, or as most of you feel, it may fall on its backside.

Out of interest, which country would you choose to go to?

I am studying courts, law and politics in the comparative perspective next year as one of my optional modules, so I'll be able to recommend legal systems to suit all your needs :)

Spain... I know the police there are errrrrrr shall we say not that good:
but the life style I could go for...

like I said just sick of being told what I can and can not do in this country...
and all the bad people seem to be treated well, and the good ones get treated like dirt:

I've said it before, if its good enough for our call centres its good enough for our jails, OFFSHORE THEM! I bet a year in a stinking Indian jail, 50 to a room with a hole to pee in would soon focus them on rehabilitation when they did get out!

I bet the indian goveremnt would probably oinly charge a tenth of what it costs to keep them over here as well!

Quite right, excellent idea! Unfortunately not one single politician, Labour, Tory or Lib Dem, would have the guts to implement it.

Seems reasonable to me. Then we could bring the call centres back to England ? Is that too much to hope for?

I would think it is, any sensible solution is bound to be rejected:mad:
