http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/...319724,00.html
LOL.....whatever next:rolleyes: why pay them to give up?, its for deprived areas...excuse me, but they cant be that deprived, they can afford the fags in the first place!!!...another stupid idea! |
Re: Smokers paid to give up!
Another act of Scottish loonacy, again paid for with English taxpayers money.

Re: Smokers paid to give up!
What stops non smokers claiming they do smoke , and recive the £12.50 a week ?
|
Re: Smokers paid to give up!
they will be carbon monoxide tested... which means they are either smokers or have dodgy central heating...

Re: Smokers paid to give up!
Another attack on our heritage.
A lot of those deprived Scots puff away all day purely to make an honest living. What incentive will they have now to produce the smoked fish we love south of the border? |
Re: Smokers paid to give up!
Bin trying to work this one out all day .. not very financially adept unfortunately.
Ok .. so if I managed to give up would give me the extra income from cessation plus the income the scheme would offer me .. great. However, we all know that the tax on cigarettes covers more than our care plus non-smokers care in the N.H.S. So will be a loss to the Government plus the £ 12.50 per week. Now, what I don't know is how Scotland is tied in economically to our Health System ?? Anybody ?? |
Re: Smokers paid to give up!
i stop smokin to get my own laptop , and the nhs would of paid for it , i should of waited till it come to england ha ha ha lol, what ever next , give junkie money to give up , ye right ,
|
Re: Smokers paid to give up!
It's probably a trick started by customs and excise, they are losing so much tax to contraband tobacco, that it's worth paying a smoker £12.50 so long as he brings the receipts for fags bought at the newsagent, (they'll soon make up the deficit that way).

Re: Smokers paid to give up!
£12-50 per week right some bright spark will say fags are between £5/£6 per packet, i smoke a packet a day,as most do so not n unreasonable claim, therefore you pay me £70 per week, or yer victimising me n breeching my human rights, n the suckers will agree n award em that.:D:rolleyes:

Re: Smokers paid to give up!
i reckon how it will work will be....when you go to any stop smoking clinic they measure your intake on a machine that you have to blow into, if you smoke about 20 or more a day the level will be something like 70/80 and the less you smoke the more it goes down, the last time i went mine was 6, i dont smoke that much BUT it will never be zero, something to do with car fumes in the atmosphere, so MAYBE thats what they will do, i think paying people to give up is silly and a waste of money

Re: Smokers paid to give up!
Well thi scheme runs over a 12 week period, whats to stop somebody doing it for 12 weeks then reverting back to there old ways, to me its just a gimic, but at £500,000 its an expensive gimic

Re: Smokers paid to give up!
So I spend all my life not smoking and working and now I find they are giving my tax money to non smoking drug addict!!
As that sensible man on the telly used to say, 'I don't believe it'!! |

I think it's a silly idea. There's more than enough help and support for those who are serious about quitting smoking without the need for more gimmicks. |
