Re: Grid lock on Blackburn road

I vaguely remember the woman who caused the road to be blocked off before by threatening to jump had tried again but not managed to get up there. I think she was stopped before she got onto the bridge. Maybe she made another attempt.

It must be awful to feel that bad to want to do that.

I don't reckon that is necessarily so.

Wouldn't it be interesting if it turned out to be a family member of one of the people joking about the matter.

Someone made a bet on them not jumping?

Though you are right, they probably were being serious, and that makes it all the more disturbing.

Why would you want to see someone so desperate to end their problems that they are threatening to jump off a bridge? Seems a bit sick to me.

had a workmate jumped off viaduct in milnshaw lane in 70s, not very nice.:(

I think people have just been going to look to see what was happening in order to report back. It's normal for AccyWeb when someone posts that something has happened/is happening but they don't know what.

I went down to the bank and could see there was nothing going on, I most certainly would not stand and watch to see if somebody jumped.

OMG... I would rather run a mile than see that!!! It must haunt you for the rest of your life when you see something like that.

I also feel sorry for drivers that have had people jump off Motorway bridges in front of them!! I know the people are desperate that are jumping!! But I also don't think it's fair on the poor drivers that have to live with that for the rest of their lives. :(

Came on Blackburn Road at eight thirty and went down to the bank at about nine thirty, there was nothing going on down there. Must have been the viaduct

Slight wander (but along the same lines) think it was tuesday, drove down union st at about 5.20 is and the police were there, looked like a woman was threatening to jump off the mutli-storey, that was fun tryiing to explain to a 6 & 8 yr old what was going on.......

Flippin 'eck! Is it that bad in Accy that so many people feel suicidal. :(

To be fair to Royboy Blazey, don't think he was making a serious bet .... just something we say. Think what he meant was in most cases like this, it is just a cry for help ... not an actual seriously intended suicidal attempt, ok, some do.

Whoever it was though, certainly needs help and sympathy.

Oh well in that case, whilst we are being so flippant, I shall be collecting bets on the odds (probably very high) of me outliving the majority of Accyweb. Of course these odds will be based on the fact that I am a few decades younger than most of you. If you drive me so insane that I kill myself out of pure frustration it will still count of course, same goes if anyone murders me (wonders what price people will put on her head).

Happy head hunting, and like I said, I hope it doesn't turn out to be anyone you know, because that really would be like a kick in the teeth wouldn't it. :gooddog:

Oh well in that case, whilst we are being so flippant ( I guess this is the new way of being able to say what you want about someone )

Don't bet on it. I work in a very iffy area where someone always knows someone who will do anything for a few quid.

We have been having a collection and we are half way there. Do you have a preferance between being shot or stabbed to death :p:D

Shot, everyone gets stabbed these days.

Also I believe the word flippant means a disrespectful casualness does it not? Surely betting on whether a distressed person jumps of a bridge or not falls into that category?

'Betting' in this instance was just a turn of phrase not an actual wager.

Re: Grid lock on Blackburn road

was driving over the Bay Bridge one day when some clown decided it was a good place to end it all , the CHP had two of the 5 lanes coned off while they tried to talk him down , needless to say traffic backed up and by the time most folks got to the bottleneck they only had two words for the would be jumper .......bet you can guess what they were......

another interesting point ......over 95 % of the jumpers from the Golden Gate bridge allways go over from the city side , very rarely do they go over from the ocean side

I dont think anybody who is desperate enough to end thier life by jumping from a high bridge has any real notion that they may be making people late home for thier tea.
