The pill online?

women are to be able to get the pill without seeing their GP under a new online service.

Orders will initially be limited to women who have already been prescribed it by their doctor.
The pill will be on sale for £29.99.

I dont think this is a good idea myself, women going on the pill or already on it should have health checks before using it....
also it can have serious side effects too...

Raised blood pressure
A very small number of women may develop a blood clot which can block a vein (venous thrombosis) or an artery (arterial thrombosis, heart attack or stroke)
A small increase in risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer
A small increase in the risk of cervical cancer if the pill is used continuously for more than five years...

so why on earth would they sell it online?....some are also saying kids could get their hands on it too:rolleyes:

But what is strange is why pay nearly £30 for it when ya can get it free from ya doctor:confused:

Is this a British Web Site panther, if it is don't think much of their business plan, when women can get it free of charge from family planning or their GP

I don't think it's the morning after pill Emzy

Apparently the site will be designed to need proof of being over 18
ie Credit Card details

So really the only way kids could get their hands on it would be if someone else bought them,
or if they took someone's card

People would be able to read up on what the side effects are,
then would be left to decide for themselves if they feel safe taking the pill

It would be a bit counter productive buying the morning after pill on line, by the time it arrived it would be to late

The CC details for age verification don't do a thing - I've been able to use my card online since I was 11 haha.

Why pay £30 for a 3 month supply when you can go to the docs and get 6 months for free?

Think its wrong anyway. Seeing as when they are prescribed your doc gives you the once over, blood pressure check etc. Any problems they can spot.

Re: The pill online?

Stupid idea, anyone over the age of 14 can easily get the pill from clinics so young kids can get it anyway, nothing stopping a 14 yr old getting some for herself from one clinic and registering at another to get another lot and pass it on to underage girls. They don't even CHECK your age or details at the clinics either so nothing stopping you from lying to get it.

Don't see why anyone would pay £30 for it.

Also, why on earth would it be credit card only? Surely it will accept debit cards? Who buys medication on credit?

Over 18's only would neglect the fact that you can legally have sex at 16, so seems silly to me. I haven't looked at the website, just going off what everyone is saying.

Pretty pointless in general anyway if you ask me.

I like the bumf that it has with the advert for the morning after pill ...........

Morning-after pill x 1
Morning-after pill in advance of need. Plan ahead without embarrassment of going to a pharmacy. Think ahead
surely if you were planning ahaead you would choose a better form of contraception... the morning after pill is designed for those that havent planned ahead...emergency contraception... i wonder if their would be any side affects if this was used as the regular contraceptive?

you have to be 18 to get a credit card but anyone can open an account and get a debit card i think so in theory it would stop children ordering them over the net:confused:

Maybe I am confused, are you telling me this can only be ordered with a credit card? So it's going to be available only to those who have good enough credit rating to get a credit card?

Maybe I am even more confused but how difficult do you find it to input credit card details into the internet? Hardly a difficult task, and quite handy using parents credits card seen as they're normally at parents address. Hell I even have the same initial as MY mum, they couldn't make it easier.

Still, I have been going to the clinic since I was 14 yrs old with various friends and know I can get the pill, abortion, STD testing for absolutely nothing, so what difference this scheme makes I do not know. Very naive if you think stopping this online accessibility would stop anything.
