Standard of living in UK
A report has been published today saying for a single person needs to earn £13,400 to pay for life in the uk.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7481927.stm I dont get nowhere near that and probably neither do a lot of other members of accyweb. They also say a couple with 2 kids needs £370 a week plus their mortgage/rental payments and a pensioner couple needs £201 a week. |

Re: Standard of living in UK
When I read things like this I always wonder just where they get their statistics to base there findings on, I don't think its this side of the Watford Gap. It also amazes me when they come out with average wage figures, I always think I wish. To me as long as I can pay my bills and put food on the table, with an odd night out I'm quite happy, I don't smoke, can't go on holiday any more, I like an odd bottle of wine, apart from health problems I'm quite happy:)

Re: Standard of living in UK
How do they come up with these things?
Me and Frank between us don't earn much more than that and when i was single i didn't earn anywhere near that! We get by though, not always easily and definately not comfortably some of the time and like i say we earn a wee bit more than that so how do they expect people to have a decent standard of living from 13400 pounds? Do they live in the real world? I expect not like jaysay said they are probably from the wrong side of the Watford Gap. Sorry don't feel like ive made much sense there! Think my medication is kicking in!! |

A charity set up by the Rowntrees cocoa man over a century ago Well respected for its contribution to the welfare of the poor. Governments do tend to take notice of their findings |
Re: Standard of living in UK
surprise surprise
foods going up, fuels going up, tax is going up the whole last budget has become a complete joke. Greg, come on, show us YOUR colours on this. Where do you stand against teh whip or not. Fuel, - levels of taxation are at a critical level Food, - teh above and other factors hitting families in YOUR constituency hard bills - gas and ellecy are at a silly high and forecasts are for worse car taxation - normal family cars costing over £1/day to keep on teh road? I'd appreciate your answers please. |
