Goats and idiots dont mix
sorry, but just after reading this story on the Accrington Obsever http://www.accringtonobserver.co.uk/...ks_pets_cornerwebsite just feel compeled to say this "owd' woman has been around long enough to know or should know that billy goats butt , any old sob story about how she didn't know these happen is total bull , her age is enough to tell you that , 73 yrs old means she was born in 1935 an grew up during years of privation when folks all over the area kept 'hen-pens ' and allottments with various animals and children were raised how to 'react/tolerate' different animals , kids allways used to go down to the 'hen-pens' with old bread and feed the animals but knew enough to keep their distance ........this story is about as believable as that fat lard arsed woman from the butty shop who feels her civil rights have been abused by serving skiving kids .
enough said ................. let the shrieking (?) and moithering begin |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
Well as secretary of the Friends of that park I can add that this unfortunate incident is probably going to mean that we aren't allowed goats in the park any more.
What will happen to this goat is anyone's guess at the moment. |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
There's a very large park in Warrington, the grounds of the former home of the Greenalls (Lord Daresbury), that has a Pets' Corner. There are various fowls, rabbits, guinea pigs, and a few deer, sheep and goats and a couple of ponies. All the animals are in fenced off enclosures so they can be stroked through the fences but can't harm anyone. Children are sometimes, by invitation only - you have to ask in advance, allowed in the enclosures with the keepers to feed the animals and muck them out. It's very well supervised so nobody gets hurt and nobody hurts the animals. It's worked well for about the last 20 years. :)

Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
All the animals in Rhyddings park are in fenced off enclosures. The goat butted the fence so the lady must have had her face very close to it. The wording in the paper does not make it clear that the goats are behind a fence.

Presumably every time some dumb animal misbehaves it will get removed from it's environment ? Lets hope this policy is applied to the town centre :) |

That puts an entirely different complexion on things. She must have had her face pressed up against the fence and, if it continued butting/kicking her, she obviously didn't move away. I was once butted by a goat, in Wales, not on my face - just the opposite. I can assure you I didn't hang around long enough for it to butt me twice. I hope the goat doesn't have to be removed, it's not his fault if fools antagonise him. Remove every animal that could be a potential hazard to children and there'll be nothing left. Even the mild-mannered guinea pig can nip fingers - even if by accident |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
its a ****** when a silly owd goat can cause such a furore, feel sorry fer the animal.

That's a shame, hope you can sort things out so you can keep him .. he is a handsome devil... :D Perhaps a double fence and a trench like they do with the lions/tigers in a zoo ... LOL. |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
The story is badly written. It makes it sound like goats wander freely around the park. She should have had enough sense to realise that if you go up behind a goat and startle it it is going to react. I hope the poor goat does not have to be removed.
A few years ago I was taking our dog for a walk past some allotments in Ossy. There was a horse or three in one of them. I stopped to talk to the horses. One horse started to nibble my jacket and wouldn't let go. I eventually got it loose. A couple of days later I took my daughter and her friend round there to show them the horse - I was wearing the same jacket and got nibbled again. More fool me. Perhaps I should have sued to owner. |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
If they do seriously start thinking about getting rid of the poor goat then maybe we could petition and put comments on it RE what we think about them getting rid of him?and why they shouldn't....cos to be honest i would rather get rid of that woman than the goat.

I'm adding 2+2 here and getting 4. The journalist was presumably educated at Rhyddings but hated school and was also attacked by a goat as a child :D |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
I was butted by a goat as a child, cant say its really affected me, everyone seemed to find it funny but dont think that it ever made it to the papers. If the future of the goat is threatened in anyway then I agree that a petition is in order and I for one will sign it

Think the best idea here is put the woman in the enclosure and let the goat roam free, seems to have a bit more sense than she has
|
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
I like goats as a species. When we thought we were going to buy a cottage with a tiny field attached (until we got gazumped) I was going to keep a couple of nanny goats and some hens. Like my dad before me I'm a bit of a frustrated farmer and, unlike him, I didn't fancy keeping pigs, much as I like them (they love having their backs scratched, you know), but raising goats was a viable proposition and they wouldn't have to be reared solely for the abbatoir. They say you can soon become accustomed to goat's milk and I was ready to try. Heidi, eat you heart out.
Anyway, for what it's worth, I will lend my support to any scheme to keep this chap in situ. If it's needed I will even write to the Accrington Observer with an exile's view of the need for a caprine presence in the park. Incidentally, does this chap have a name? Please don't tell me it's Billy. :p |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
People who take idiots like this woman seriously are .... well .... idiots. What was needed was someone to say to her: "You stupid bitch, what the hell did you do that for"? Instead, along comes the infamous butty reporter, and gives some legitimacy to her foolishness. Jeez:mad:

And my sympathies are with the goat.

Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
i have visited said goat in rhyddings park, he's a lovely old thing , but as anyone with any sense knows you DO NOT antagonise a goat, he is behind a fence & is well cared for.
(westender) i used to live on a smallholding when i lived in wales we had ducks, hens, & goats, plus 3 geese & i would say the geese were the ones to be more afraid off, i used to milk the goats twice a day, goats milk is lovely ....."oh the good life." |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
Couldn't believe it when I read it, where has this woman been all her life? Goats butt that is a fact of life. I have also seen this goat and the enclosure is fine if you stay away from the fence, and as has been pointed out (also in the paper) there is a sign up in the enclosure, don't know why this woman is surprised that the goat got her, she must have been pressed right up against the fence, so it's her own fault. I say leave him where he is, it's only idiots who will have any problems with him. :(

Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
From my reading ot the report in the Observer I too thought she was in the enclosure with the goat.
How on earth did it manage to butt her, and then kick her in the eye? The goat should stay. I even think it's ridiculous that warning notices have been put up. Are notices to be attached to every relevant tree, warning that conkers might fall on your head, and may cause serious damage? |

Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
The notices were put up afterwards because of the incident.
Crafted by my own fair hand. |

I agree with you, Garinda. Sadly, it is the way of the world today that notices stating the obvious have to be put up in many places and on many objects......such as ' contains nuts' on peanuts, 'contains milk' on milk, 'sharp blade' on razors, 'do not drink' on perfume etc etc. This is all to try to stop the 'I'll sue' brigade from getting their hands on money due to their own stupidity. The goat should definitely stay. |
Can we keep the goat and get rid of the stupid woman and idiot reporter?
|
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
Why is this newsworthy?
Goats butt you, signs warned her,her own stupid fault IMO. |
Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
think it would be a good idea,if anyone knows her,to get her to read this thread n then she would know what the public think.

Re: Goats and idiots dont mix
I would be surprised that anyone can live to be her age and not know that goats can butt and kick. She was too close to the fence. Goat was behind the fence. She startled the goat. Her fault. End of story.
Talking of daft notices on things, there's a xylophone in The Music Box and amongst a whole list of superfluous nonsense there's this gem: "It is dangerous to use this xylophone for anything other than musical purposes" (paraphrased) Now what else would anyone dream of using a xylophone for? The mind boggles. |
